Open to permanent employee that work in the Division of Environmental Evaluation & Remediation Review and meet the requirements.DescriptionUnder the limited supervision of a Geologist 3, Environmental Protection, or other supervisory official in the Department of Environmental Protection, performs professional work relating to the collection/analysis of geological, hydrogeological, or geophysical data pertaining to environmental problems including groundwater resources, geological hazards pollution, and subsurface migration of pollutants; provides technical expertise, instruction, assistance, and consultation; does other related duties as required.Specific to the Position
The responsibilities will include providing geologic and hydrogeologic support for CSRR for the more technically complex sites. It also includes the issuance of the Discharge to Ground Water Permits and the establishment of Classification Exception Areas. A more advanced understanding of geology and hydrogeology are critical skills necessary to fulfill the job duties. This person is responsible for reviewing ground water issues related to Unregulated Heating Oil Tank (UHOT) cases and working with the Bureau of Field Operations in addition to, publicly funded and direct oversight cases. They are also responsible for representing BGWPA on technical guidance document committees.Preferred Skill Set
This position is responsible for the review of workplans, reports, correspondence, proposals and studies which pertain to geology and hydrogeology, site remediation, well injection and other areas to ensure scientific accuracy and compliance with Contaminated Site Remediation and Redevelopment (CSRR) regulations and policies and procedures for Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP), Publicly Funded and Case Management cases. Will advise and make recommendations on policy matters.
Requirements
EDUCATION:Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in geology, natural science, or engineering to include or be supplemented by thirty-six (36) semester hour credits in geology, hydrogeology, geohydrology, and/or geophysics, and also supplemented by nine (9) additional semester hour credits in any combination of the following courses: hydrogeology, geophysics, chemistry, computer science/modeling, water resources management, environmental science, soil science, or engineering.EXPERIENCE:Two (2) years of professional work experience in geology, geophysics, and/or hydrogeology.NOTE: A Master’s degree in one of the above listed disciplines may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.NOTE: "Professional experience" refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the authority to act according to one's own judgment and make accurate and informed decisions.service by the closing date of this posting.
