Job Title: Business Development Manager – Solar Projects (India)
Department: Business Development / Sales
Location: Salt Lake, Kolkata

Job Purpose
To identify, develop, and secure solar project opportunities (rooftop, C&I, utility-scale, railways) across India by leveraging technical knowledge, market insights, and industry relationships. Responsible for full-cycle business development from lead generation to deal closure.
Key Responsibilities
- Market & Lead Generation:
- Identify and qualify potential customers in commercial, industrial, and government sectors.
- Conduct site assessments and engage with key stakeholders for solar project discussions.
- Client Engagement & Proposal Development:
- Understand customer requirements and propose optimal solar solutions (CAPEX/OPEX/RESCO models).
- Prepare and present techno-commercial proposals, ROI analysis, and financial models.
- Coordinate with design and engineering teams for solutioning.
- Sales Closure & Commercial Negotiation:
- Lead pricing discussions, contract terms, and closure of Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) or EPC contracts.
- Work with legal and finance teams to finalize contracts.
- Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, government agencies, DISCOMs, and EPC players.
- Represent the company at solar expos, industry events, and policy forums.
- Policy & Tendering:
- Track and respond to relevant tenders from SECI, NTPC, state nodal agencies, and DISCOMs.
- Liaise with central/state bodies for approvals, permissions, and scheme participation.
- Reporting & MIS:
- Maintain CRM records, sales pipelines, and monthly forecasts.
- Provide market intelligence and competitor insights to leadership.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: B.E./B.Tech (Electrical/Mechanical/Civil) – mandatory; MBA in Marketing/Finance – preferred
- Experience: 7–10 years, with at least 4 years in the solar power sector (EPC, IPP, or government utilities)
- Industry Fit: Ideal for ex-Sr. DEE / DE (Electrical) from Indian Railways, PWD, CPWD, or state utilities with solar exposure
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of solar systems (Rooftop, Ground-mounted, C&I)
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
- Strong commercial and policy understanding
- Proficient in MS Office, CRM tools, and basic financial modelling
Other Requirements
- Willingness to travel extensively across India
- Strong network in solar ecosystem – DISCOMs, consultants, OEMs, and industrial clients
- Comfortable working independently and in target-driven environments
- Experience with Indian Railways as client will be an added advantage
