Reporting to the Manager, NSCC, the successful candidate will monitor and control the real time operations of Brookfield’s hydro-electric, wind power, solar power and connected facilities to ensure their safe and reliable operation on a 24x7 rotating shift basis.
This is an on-site role based in our Gatineau, Quebec office.

What you’ll be doing:
- Ensure all generating facilities remain in compliance with regulatory requirements, reliability standards, and applicable market rules;
- Act as Controlling Authority and deploy and/or dispatch renewable generation facilities in associated market(s) and grid transmission systems to assure effective integration of resource plans while fulfilling business goals;
- Apply and manage work protection from a Controlling Authority standpoint;
- Coordinate with the marketing staff to ensure all energy and ancillaries resources are optimized and ensure public safety, reliability of equipment and impact on environment is never compromised;
- Participate in strategic planning and act proactively to coordinate all normal and emergency control room activities, with Regional Operations staff;
- Ensure emergency operating procedures are in place, exercised and effective;
- Interface with Water Resource Managers to ensure resources are deployed as per planning timeframe and take independent actions when necessary to redeploy such resources based on economics and minimizing environmental and public safety impacts;
- Ensure adequate records and documents are maintained and deliver reports in regards to System Control operations both internally and externally, where required;
- Seek opportunities for continuous improvement within the scope of control room activities and recommend such improvement to management, while maintaining individual training and development plans;
- Occasional out of town overnight travel will be required.
You should apply if you have:
- A DCS (Diploma of College Studies) or a vocational studies diploma (DEP) or another related field, and/or work experience.
- Knowledge of electrical theory, power system design, operation and control, associated mathematics and computer applications is an asset;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products including Outlook, Word and Excel.
What you must have:
- Ability to complete an in-house training program and potentially NERC or ISO equivalent certification program(s) and subsequently maintain these qualifications, where required;
- Capable of working efficiently and cooperatively in a shift-working, team-oriented environment;
- Excellent communication and cooperative skills with the ability to manage customers facing issues in a diplomatic, professional and courteous manner;
- High level of situational awareness and capable of solving problems and using sound judgment;
- Excellent team player
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
