Summary:
The EHS & Sustainability Manager will be responsible for ensuring the safety leadership of all Miller Milling facilities and ensure compliance with corporate and legal safety standards and regulations. These responsibilities will include conducting safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with occupational and environmental health and safety requirements for employee training programs. This position will also establish and maintain complete safety and training records and develop, update and manage workplace safety programs, procedures and policies and be a driving force to support ongoing behavioral based safety initiatives. In addition, this role will lead under the direction of the SVP of Operations, the corporate Sustainability team to drive continuous improvement to established metrics.
Primary Duties:
EHS Administration
- Identify and prioritize areas of safety and environmental performance concerns and opportunities for improvement.
- Update and verify full implementation of all environmental health and safety programs.
- Identify and share best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices.
- Assure compliance with all applicable OSHA workplace safety requirements and other initiatives to ensure the facility meets all corporate and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure continual safety improvements and set annual objectives and targets. Monitor results and audit progress and recommend policies and procedures to reduce risks and hazards.
- Perform safety and environmental audits and inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
- Work with the plant leadership teams to develop remediation solutions for audit issues.
- Participate with the plant teams to investigate all accidents, near-misses, and injuries to determine root causes, install preventive or corrective measures.
- Serve on the Claims Team (with HR representative) to manage all workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work activities for injured team members.
- Support implementation of Process Safety Management, Risk Management Planning and Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorist Security programs for covered facilities.
EHS Training
- Establish and monitor safety programs designed to reduce lost-time incidents, recordable incidents, and improve Company safety record.
- Establish facility and safety and environmental training programs. Work with plant leadership to ensure these programs are carried out.
- Work with Training and Development Manager to provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to plant leadership and employees on safety initiatives and necessary changes.
- Coordinate, administer and implement a comprehensive training program in occupational, industrial, and environmental safety using a Learning Management System.
- Provide up to date safety and environmental regulatory guidance to all departments.
- Support Operations and Engineering team with project reviews, capital planning, and contractor safety.
Safety Administration
- Monitor, analyze and report safety and environmental metrics and performance for all facilities.
- Work with the facilities to prepare and submit environmental compliance reports to regulatory agencies.
- Comply with all applicable internal and external communication regarding hazardous materials.
- Review reports of injury to ensure completeness and appropriate action is taken to prevent re- occurrence.
- Work with the facilities for conducting required health and safety testing for employees.
- Participate in professional organizations in order to promote Company positions on pending legislation and maintain industry awareness keeping senior leadership aware of upcoming changes.
- Serve as primary professional contact on safety and environmental matters and regulatory inspections.
Sustainability
- Oversee and manage the Corporate Sustainability program and department, including the Energy Reduction efforts at all locations and the Plant Sustainability Teams
- Update and verify all emissions data and reporting for Miller Milling goals as well as our Parent Company goals.
Management
- Provide leadership to ensure a strong culture of accountability in the Safety and Sustainability Department.
- Responsible for overall training and development of direct reports.
- Drive both EHS and Sustainability departments to deliver results that meet all the requirements of the Corporate Safety Program, Safety initiatives and the Sustainability Program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety, or related field
- 7-10 years’ experience implementing and managing a safety program in a manufacturing environment
- Experience working in the food industry and/or in mills a plus
- Master's degree in related field is a plus.
- Experience with PSM/RMP/CFATS programs a plus
- Demonstrated working knowledge of safety rules and regulations at all levels of government, including federal, state and local
- Demonstrated ability with strategic thinking and working within and through the organization using influence and client management skills
- Strong written and oral communications skills
- Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
- Ability to attain and promote good customer relationships (both internal and external)
- Strong project management and multi-tasking skills required
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state and local laws, safety laws and policies
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, LMS, and other EMIS systems.
- Certifications (Preferred): Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) working to a CSP
- Ability to travel to all Miller Milling locations to provide support and direction. Based in our corporate HQ in Minneapolis, MN
- Travel requirements approximately 40%
Salary & Benefits:
The expected compensation range for this position is $105,000-$132,500 which includes annual base pay. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience. Position is eligible for variable incentive pay in accordance with performance in accordance with an annual bonus plan. In addition, this position may be eligible for a range of benefits (e.g., Medical, Dental & Vision, Health Care & Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, Disability Benefits, Life Insurance, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences and Retirement Benefits, etc.).
