About Jerritt Canyon
The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations.
The Opportunity
The Sr. Environmental Engineer – Air & Waste is responsible for leading air quality and waste management programs at Jerritt Canyon. This role provides technical expertise and oversight to ensure compliance with applicable regulations while supporting site operations and future planning efforts.
This position works closely with Environmental, Operations, Maintenance, and external stakeholders to manage air permitting, emissions compliance, and waste programs across the site. The role plays a key part in identifying compliance risks, supporting permitting strategies, and driving practical, field-based solutions that align with site needs.
Responsibilities
- Lead site air quality and waste management programs to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements
- Maintain compliance with all applicable air permits, including tracking requirements, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting
- Support and lead air permitting efforts, including permit modifications, renewals, and new applications
- Develop and manage emissions inventories, calculations, and supporting documentation
- Conduct or oversee visible emissions observations (VEOs), inspections, and compliance evaluations
- Identify air compliance risks and work with Operations to implement practical mitigation strategies
- Lead hazardous and non-hazardous waste management programs, including characterization, storage, and disposal
- Ensure compliance with RCRA and other applicable waste regulations, including inspections and reporting
- Coordinate waste shipments and manage vendor relationships for disposal and recycling
- Support investigations and reporting for air and waste-related deviations or incidents
- Interface with regulatory agencies and support site inspections, audits, and information requests
- Manage consultants and contractors supporting air and waste programs
- Develop and improve procedures, tracking tools, and compliance systems
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff and technicians

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field (required), or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- 5+ years of experience in environmental compliance, air quality, waste management, or related roles
- Experience in mining, manufacturing, or other heavy industrial environments preferred
- Working knowledge of air quality regulations (e.g., permitting, emissions calculations, compliance reporting) and/or hazardous waste regulations (e.g., RCRA)
- Experience supporting air permitting, emissions inventories, or compliance reporting preferred
- Experience managing hazardous and/or industrial waste programs, including storage, characterization, and disposal
- Familiarity with environmental data management, reporting systems, and compliance tracking tools
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently while supporting cross-functional teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; experience with emissions tracking or compliance systems is a plus
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental compliance, and continuous improvement
