SHINE Technologies is seeking an Environmental Specialist who will be responsible for implementing the requirements of SHINE’s environmental compliance programs. The Environmental Specialist will work with the SHINE Director EHS-RP to interface with external and internal stakeholders, ensuring activities are conducted in compliance with regulatory requirements and commitments. This position works as part of a collaborative team of EHS personnel to drive continuous improvement and regulatory compliance across multiple SHINE facilities.
The base salary range for this position is $83,000 - $120,000 per year plus a comprehensive compensation package. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Environmental Specialist:
- Prepare, review, and submit regulatory correspondence (e.g., permits, reports, forms) to the applicable regulatory agencies (e.g., NRC, EPA, WI-DNR).
- Interface with numerous government agencies in support of SHINE environmental compliance programs.
- Develop and maintain company policies, procedures, and programs related to environmental compliance.
- Perform audits of facility environmental programs, procedures, and work practices.
- Perform monitoring, sampling, and data collection activities related to environmental compliance including but not limited to recycle and solid waste monitoring, GHG tracking, wastewater monitoring, air effluent and stack monitoring, and well monitoring.
- Track and trend performance metrics related to environmental compliance.
- Recommend solutions to management related to environmental compliance and protection.
- Support administrative duties such as records retention and document control.
- Perform other duties related to EHS as requested or assigned depending on experience and qualifications.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or environmental engineering or related physical sciences or equivalent experience.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to environmental compliance.
- Experience in regulatory affairs such as preparation and submittal of environmental permitting or reports.
- Experience in environmental monitoring, sampling, and data collection.
- Experience in a nuclear industry preferred.
- Technical understanding of nuclear facility principles and operation preferred.
- Strong PC skills to include Microsoft software.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
- Ability to move within facility environments, including accessing testing and operating areas and operating equipment.
- Ability to handle standard equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Work may take place in controlled radiation areas within regulatory exposure limits.
- Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
- Although flexible work hours may be available, shift-work schedules may be required, and extended hours will sometimes be necessary to complete required work assignment.
- Ability to respond to emergencies as a member of the emergency response organization, as described in facility emergency plans, and participation in site emergency plan drills.
Eligibility for employment is conditioned on the applicant’s ability to qualify for access to information subject to U.S. Export Controls. Additionally, applicant’s eligibility may be conditioned based upon meeting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements for access to Safeguards Information, which typically requires a pre-employment drug screen, fingerprinting and criminal background check.
