Senior / Principal Environmental Consultant – Contaminated Land

Salary: Up to $190,000 + Super (depending on experience)

We are seeking an experienced Senior / Principal Environmental Consultant with a strong background in contaminated land to join a growing and dynamic environmental team. This role will involve leading complex projects, managing client relationships, and providing technical expertise across a wide range of contaminated land assessments and remediation projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage contaminated land assessment and remediation projects from inception to completion
- Conduct and oversee:
- Phase 1 & Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments (ESA)
- Detailed Site Investigations (DSI)
- Remediation Action Plans (RAP)
- Validation and closure reports
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior and mid-level consultants
- Manage client relationships, including proposals, reporting, and stakeholder engagement
- Ensure compliance with relevant environmental regulations and guidelines across Australia
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including geotechnical, civil, and planning professionals
- Review and sign off on technical reports (for Principal-level candidates)
- Support business development through proposal writing and client acquisition
Key Requirements
- 8–12+ years of experience in environmental consulting, specifically in contaminated land
- Strong understanding of Australian environmental legislation and guidelines (e.g., NEPM, EPA regulations)
- Proven experience managing complex contaminated land projects
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage multiple stakeholders
- Strong report writing and technical review skills
- Experience in client management and business development (especially for Principal level)
- Relevant tertiary qualification in:
- Environmental Science
- Environmental Engineering
- Geology or related field
Desirable Skills & Certifications
- EPA Accredited Site Auditor (or working towards) – highly regarded
- Experience working on infrastructure, urban development, or industrial projects
- Strong commercial acumen and project financial management experience
- Membership with relevant professional bodies (e.g., EIANZ, Engineers Australia)
