DescriptionThe purpose of this role is to execute and oversee the health and safety program and support daily Tank Truck Operations and Driver Training in the Atlantic region. The role is 40% “administrative” and 60% “Field work”.
Responsibilities
- Conduct driver loading and delivery audits to ensure compliance with SOPs and behavioral expectations.
- Document findings in Intelex and support execution of the company’s Safety Management System (SMS).
- Liaise with terminals and customer loading facilities, maintain site maps, and manage delivery equipment inventory and distribution.
- Participate in driver meetings and coordinate with maintenance vendors to ensure fleet standards are upheld.
- Serve as a safety and compliance resource for employees, leaders, and committees. Manage HSSE compliance using systems such as Omnitracs, Intelex, Lytx, and Idelic. Monitor fleet safety performance and support Operations on all safety-related matters.
- Deliver compliance training, support e‑learning programs, and complete driver competency signoffs. Provide onboarding support and ensure new drivers have the tools required for a safe start.
- Conduct hands‑on training for specialized products and non‑standard delivery methods.
- Lead root‑cause investigations, maintain injury records in Intelex, and coordinate Operations involvement.
- Participate in incident response, including managing contractors and attending scenes when appropriate.
- Act as a change leader by coaching drivers and operations leaders to improve safety behaviors.
- Oversee site‑level risk management tools such as RAPI, CRAM, and field risk assessments to ensure consistent hazard identification and mitigation.
Qualifications
- Post-Secondary education in Health and Safety with a minimum of 3 year’s work experience, with a strong focus in EHS Compliance or 3 years’ experience in the trucking industry with a focus on transportation compliance.
- North American Transportation Management Institute (NATMI) Certified Director of Safety (CDS) or Certified Safety Supervisor (CSS) certification preferred.
- Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) certification preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers. Bilingual in French is an asset.
- Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
- Willingness and ability to travel if required.
- Ability to drive passenger vehicle (company provided).
- Driver Abstract(s), dated within 30 days of application with (within three (3) years from date of application), No more than three (3) moving violations, No license suspensions, No violations for Dangerous, Careless and/or Reckless driving, No chargeable accidents.
- Current Commercial Driver’s License Class “1” or Class “A” with Air Brake endorsement (E or Z endorsement) preferred.
