Responsibilities and qualifications
We are seeking a new Assistant Professor to develop the field of geology with a specific focus on mineral resources at DTU Sustain. This will involve research on geological mineral resources with a strong focus on the Arctic as well as interdisciplinary collaborations related to DTU Sustain’s and Arctic DTU’s research activities.
Your primary tasks will be to:
- Conduct research related to DTU Sustain’s research activities in geology and mineral resources
- Teach in for example the courses “Mineral resources” and “Construction”. The latter in Danish.
- Teach and supervise BSc and MSc student projects, and be co-supervisor for PhD students
- Develop and coordinate the mineral resource track at the Cold Climate Engineering MSc degree
We expect you to have a background in igneous petrology and have done research on mineral‑resource‑bearing layered mafic and alkaline intrusions and mafic-felsic systems using methodologies such as petrography (e.g. optical microscopy, SEM), geochemistry (microanalytical techniques such as electron microprobe, EDS analyses, laser ablation mass spectrometry), and geochronology.
Teaching will require broad geological competencies. Experience of teaching in an Arctic context will be a requirement, as will the ability to contribute to the Danish-language Bachelor of Engineering in Arctic Civil Engineering.
A proven ability to attract funding is a requirement. So is experience in coordinating international joint educational degrees with partner universities. Experience with planning and conducting fieldwork is an advantage. Knowledge of scientific programming languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python) and GIS is a requirement.
You must be responsible for the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.
As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
