Founded in 2011, Amp Americas builds, owns, and operates Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) production facilities that convert dairy waste into carbon-negative natural gas, renewable transportation fuel, and power. Position Summary
Working closely with and reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), the Sr. Manager of Environmental Commodities will be an integral part of AMP’s commercial efforts, focusing on:
- Originating and executing mid-marketing RNG environmental commodities transactions, including RINs, LCFS credits, and RTCs, focused in the 0 to 24 month timeframe
- Full ownership of Amp’s hedging program and associated risk management
- Managing and overseeing commercial operations, portfolio optimization, and position management
- Managing a team of commercial operations personnel
The person in this role will work with our experienced commercial operations team to ensure flawless execution of Amp’s revenue generating processes and report Amp commercial activities to various internal Amp stakeholders. The ability to work independently while simultaneously collaborating with the rest of the Commercial team is essential, as well as a good working knowledge of the pricing and back-office functions needed to effectively manage a portfolio. This position will be hired at either the senior manager or director level, commensurate with candidate experience and will report to our Chicago office, with flexibility for 1-2 days/week remote work.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage relationships with trading and mid-marketing counterparties, generating deal flow and executable transactions in the short term (0 to 24 months) to support portfolio optimization
- Manage Amp’s environmental attributes (RIN, LCFS, RTC, etc.) position; make recommendations to Amp’s Hedge Committee; execute trades to accomplish agreed upon hedging objectives; direct delivery of environmental attributes to counterparties in coordination with finance and accounting teams to optimize working capital
- Manage RNG, environmental attribute, and physical gas contracts and work closely with Head of Compliance to ensure Amp meets it regulatory obligations
- Manage RNG position to maximize RNG netbacks
- Anticipate and escalate potential commercial risks and opportunities gleaned from information flow within Amp and from counterparty interactions
- Manage and quality control commercial operations execution for revenue generating processes
- Adapt commercial processes to fit changes in regulations and new markets
- Manage and develop a team of capable professionals
Success Metrics (Outcomes)
- Within 12 months: Generate incremental revenue through marketing opportunities, including 3rd party supply and demand market making; flawlessly lead and execute Amp’s hedging program; enhance Amp’s portfolio position through transparent decision making and reporting; gain trust and confidence of team you lead
Required Skills / Abilities / Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to manage and optimize a portfolio through execution of short-term (0-to 24 months) transactions
- 5-10 years in RNG, RIN, LCFS, natural gas, power, or other commodity portfolio management function; sustainability expertise and experience strongly preferred (e.g., environmental attribute experience). RNG market knowledge and familiarity with RFS/RINs, LCFS/CI accounting, and voluntary market instruments is beneficial
- Mid-office commodities experience including deep experience with contract terms (NAESB, LEAP, etc.) and with managing trade operations
- Commodities markets research experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced Excel skills
- Aptitude for solving problems
- Works well in a small team environment, where teamwork, initiative, and accountability are paramount
