As a Staff Technical Product Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the digital commerce and transaction platform for our vehicle sales experience, with a specific focus on integrating a third-party financial services provider into the end-to-end customer journey with related internal tooling.
This role owns the product strategy and execution for digital financing, payments, and transaction orchestration, ensuring a seamless, compliant, and conversion-optimized experience. You will operate at the intersection of product, engineering, finance, legal, and external partners to deliver scalable, secure, and customer-centric financial capabilities.
This is a highly strategic and technical individual contributor role that requires comfort navigating ambiguity, influencing across teams, and making high-impact decisions that directly affect revenue as well as employee and customer experiences.
What you’ll do

Define and Lead Product Strategy
- Own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for customer financing within the direct-to-consumer sales platform across customer and employee experiences.
- Define how customer facing flows and internal tooling work together to support assisted checkout, financing support, and exception handling.
- Translate business goals (conversion, approval rate/speed, risk tolerance, revenue) into clear product outcomes and prioritized initiatives.
- Navigate evolving partnerships to formulate concrete, executable plans.
Own Financial Services & Partner Integrations
- Lead the integration of third-party financial services providers (e.g., lenders, banks, fintechs, payment processors) into the transaction flow.
- Define product requirements for financing offers, credit applications, approvals, disclosures, contracts, and funding workflows.
- Serve as the primary product counterpart to external partners, aligning roadmaps, APIs, SLAs, and release plans.
Customer-Centric Checkout & Transaction Design
- Design and optimize the financing experience, balancing customer simplicity with financial, legal, and operational requirements.
- Act as a customer advocate to reduce friction, increase transparency, and improve approval and completion rates.
- Partner with design and UX teams to ensure financing and payment experiences are intuitive and trustworthy.
Employee Experience & Internal Tooling Ownership
- Define the internal tools and workflows that enable employees to shepherd customers through checkout and financing, including:
- Viewing customer application status and financing options
- Assisting with incomplete or stalled applications
- Managing exceptions, errors, and manual reviews
- Supporting compliance, disclosures, and customer communications
- Partner with sales, customer support, and operations teams to deeply understand frontline needs and pain points.
- Design tools that balance speed, clarity, compliance, and auditability, while minimizing operational burden.
Cross-functional Leadership
- Collaborate closely with engineering, finance, legal, compliance, risk, and operations to deliver secure and compliant financial capabilities.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, clearly communicating tradeoffs, dependencies, and business impact.
- Align internal teams and external partners around shared outcomes and timelines.
Technical & Platform Stewardship
- Partner with engineering to deliver scalable, reliable, and secure systems, leveraging APIs, event driven architectures, and data integrations.
- Ensure transaction logic, order state management, and financial data flows are resilient and auditable.
- Influence architectural decisions while maintaining clear ownership boundaries with engineering leaders.
Operationalize & Measure Success
- Support rollout, monitoring, and iteration of financial services capabilities across markets and channels.
- Define and track KPIs such as conversion rate, financing attachment rate, approval rate, drop-off points, and partner performance.
- Use data and insights to continuously improve the checkout and financing experience.
Location & Travel Expectations:
- This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Charlotte, NC, or Fremont, CA.
- The responsibilities of this role require 4-5 days attendance in the office with in-person meetings and events regularly.
- Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

- 8+ years of product management experience, with a strong emphasis on technical platforms or complex integrations.
- Demonstrated success delivering checkout, payments, financing, or transactional systems in a DTC, ecommerce, automotive, or fintech context.
- Experience working directly with external financial services or payment partners is strongly preferred.
- Direct-to-consumer vehicle sales or order-to-delivery experience is a plus.
Technical Expertise
- Strong understanding of system architecture, APIs, and data integration patterns.
- Experience with enterprises cale systems such as order management, payments platforms, CRM, ERP, or financial services platforms.
- Comfort collaborating deeply with engineering on technical tradeoffs without acting as an engineering manager.
Skills
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence across product, engineering, finance, legal, and executive stakeholders.
- Strong product judgment and data driven decision making skills.
- Ability to manage complexity, risk, and compliance considerations while maintaining a customer first mindset.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, Engineering, or a related field required.
- MBA or advanced technical degree preferred.

Pay Transparency
This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.
Initial Base Salary Range: $140,000.00 - $170,000.00
Initial California base salary range = $154,000 - $187,000
