Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a Senior Environmental Project Manager to support environmental planning, climate change, and sustainability services in the US West. This role combines client relationship management, project delivery, and strategic growth while providing senior-level oversight on greenhouse gas (GHG) and climate-related analyses.
The ideal candidate is a seller-doer who can lead environmental compliance projects under CEQA and NEPA, build and maintain strong client relationships, support business development efforts, and guide multidisciplinary teams delivering environmental documentation and climate-related analyses.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Maintain approximate 65% direct utilization through managing and/or supporting the delivery of environmental planning and climate change-related services.
- Manage and deliver environmental planning projects under CEQA and NEPA, including EIRs, EAs, EISs, and IS/MNDs.
- Contribute expertise to GHG inventories, emissions assessments, and climate action planning projects.
- Support development of decarbonization strategies, emissions reduction pathways, and climate-related planning initiatives.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams of technical specialists and coordinate preparation of environmental documentation.
- Manage project scope, schedule, budgets, and deliverable quality.
- Lead and support proposal development, risk reviews, pursuit strategy, interviews, and contract negotiations.
- Contribute to profitable revenue growth and promotion of environmental planning and climate change-related services in California.
- Serve as a key client manager for public and private sector clients, maintaining strong relationships and supporting long-term partnerships.
- Provide senior technical guidance to staff preparing environmental documentation and climate analyses.
- Mentor and coach employees in different professional roles and career streams, within standard practice and company guidelines.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- As a Senior Seller-doer, you will identify and develop new opportunities, prepare compelling technical proposals, and assume an active leadership role in cultivating new business with both new and existing clients.
- Ability to exercise independent judgement to resolve complex problems, analyze issues, interpret information, and select methods andsolutions.
- Ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts.
- Work effectively and collaboratively with project teams, employees, management, contractors, and consultants in a professional setting.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal air quality rules and regulations including district regulatory programs, the federal Clean Air Act, and greenhouse gas regulations.
- High-level oversight/understanding of atmospheric sciences, and expertise in GHG analyses.
Ability to work in a fast-paced consulting environment and handle multiple assignments simultaneously, adhering to project budgets and schedules is essential.
- Strong MS Office computer skills; advanced understanding of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Position requires strict adherence to health and safety procedures, good organization skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and a passion for high quality of work.
- Must have a good driving record and valid Driver's License.
- Prior to employment with Stantec the candidate may be required to successfully pass a physical and drug/alcohol screening, if applicable.
- The role is structured to maintain approximately 65% billable utilization focused on project management, environmental document preparation, and technical leadership, with the remaining time supporting client relationship development, business development, proposal preparation, and strategic initiatives.
QualificationsEducation and Experience
A minimum of 10 years of professional environmental planning and atmospheric sciences quality experience.
A bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related field. Advanced degrees and professional registration are strongly preferred.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Periodic field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
