Essential Functions:
Demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives related to reactor systems operations within the operating nuclear fleet of BWRs. Integrates and develops technologies, application methodologies and supporting processes that meet business needs across the organization in this technical discipline. Involved in long-term planning and issue resolution. This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues concerning evaluations and analyses for safety related and non-safety related Nuclear Steam Supply Systems to ensure performance and regulatory compliance. The Fleet Systems Principal Engineer has strong interfaces with hardware design, containment, reactor thermal hydraulics, chemistry systems as well as responsible for emergent customer issue resolutions. This role requires work planning and work oversight, technical problem solving and communication / collaboration with other teams within the GVH and GNF business functions
Job Description
Essential responsibilities include:
- Focus on streamlining work processes associated with systems engineering and systems management processes, starting from existing plant operating practices, through plant modifications and plant maintenance practices, capturing work processes through automation practices, applied practice, procedures, etc.
- Establish criteria, methodologies and processes consistent with regulatory criteria and regulatory guidelines.
- Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions to meet near term and long-term engineering capability needs, develop and maintain licensed methodologies, and provide internal and external (customer) support and guidance (written, verbal, forecasted, encoded, or on-demand) regarding dynamic analysis methodologies and capabilities.
- Validate / Establish processes and procedures to ensure high quality work execution for ‘First of a Kind’, ‘First in a While’ activities
- Provide technical consultation as required to define technical requirements, design products or services, coordinate programs, and implement solutions in areas related to this technical domain throughout the business.
- Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact.
- Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art for analyses, including the acquisition, maintenance, prediction, interpretation, and communication of system performance capabilities, experience, lessons learned, in order to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs.
- Confirm adequacy of legacy analysis assumptions and address as appropriate to assure applicability within current analyses techniques and methodologies.
- Support other GE businesses, internal & external customers, and suppliers as required.
- Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues.
- Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters.
- Use knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needs.
- Prepare and review invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company.
- Provide technical guidance, direction and training to new and experienced materials engineers, specialists, technicians and co-ops.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
- At least 8 additional years of experience in an engineering capacity
Desired Characteristics:
- At least 10 years cumulative knowledge of dynamic modeling and analysis, simulation and predictive assessments, customer issue resolution, licensing requirements affecting technical domain and incorporation of industry guidance.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including executive communication capability
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business
- Problem analysis and resolution skills
- Demonstrated leadership and plant operating experience managing or supporting engineering work for BWR nuclear island systems, along with the ability to teach and set standard practices within related and adjacent systems operational disciplines.
- Ability to organize, plan and lead large scale implementations across multiple functional teams.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $127,900.00 and $245,100.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
