Portfolio Operations & Performance Oversight
- Oversee the performance of a portfolio of renewable energy plants from central Johannesburg operations headquarters.
- Manage site operations and maintenance teams to deliver operations and maintenance services to contractual and KPI standards.
- Set and enforce performance targets including availability, capacity factor, and performance ratio.
- Monitor and benchmark plant performance across sites, identifying underperformance and driving corrective actions.
- Ensure consistent implementation of operational and maintenance standards, work procedures and safety across all sites.
Plant Manager Governance & Leadership
- Lead, manage, and develop site-based Plant Managers across all operating sites.
- Define clear roles, responsibilities, and KPIs for Plant Managers.
- Ensure effective team structures, staffing, and capability at each plant.
- Provide strategic direction while empowering site-level execution.
Grid & Offtaker Interface
- Manage strategic interfaces with grid operators, including Eskom and/or other offtakers.
- Ensure portfolio-wide compliance with Grid Code and connection agreements.
- Oversee curtailment strategies, outage coordination, and grid event responses.
Maintenance Strategy & Reliability Oversight
- Define and standardise maintenance strategies across all plants (preventive, predictive, corrective).
- Ensure Plant Managers effectively execute maintenance plans.
- Oversee portfolio-wide spares strategy and critical component planning.
- Drive reliability-centred maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate and reliable maintenance record keeping.
Contract & Commercial Management
- Provide technical and operational input into operations and maintenance contract negotiations.
- Own and manage O&M contracts across the portfolio, including performance guarantees, SLAs, and KPIs.
- Monitor and manage exposure to liquidated damages and performance penalties.
- Lead commercial responses to change events, variations, and change in law impacts.
- Ensure compliance with PPA obligations and lender technical requirements.
Risk & Insurance Management
- Oversee development and maintenance of plant-level risk registers.
- Identify and manage operational, technical, and commercial risks across the portfolio.
- Interface with insurers and oversee claims management.
- Ensure compliance with insurance warranties and policy requirements.
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Leadership
- Lead the implementation of a strong HSE culture across all sites.
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and GMR 2.1 responsibilities.
- Oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Monitor portfolio-level HSE performance metrics (LTIFR, TRIR, etc.).
Budgeting, Cost Control & Tendering
- Prepare and manage portfolio-level O&M budgets, forecasts, and cost tracking.
- Drive cost control and optimisation initiatives across all sites.
- Support tendering, pricing, and bid submissions for O&M and EPC projects.
- Develop standardised and competitive O&M pricing models.
Data, Systems & Digitalisation
- Oversee SCADA, CMMS, and data management systems across the portfolio.
- Ensure data integrity, consistency, and availability across all plants.
- Implement standardised reporting dashboards and analytics tools.
- Drive digital transformation and predictive maintenance initiatives.
Reporting & Stakeholder Management
- Consolidate and present portfolio-level reports to management, clients and lenders.
- Act as the primary point of contact for key external stakeholders.
- Ensure consistent and transparent communication across all sites.
Community & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with B-BBEE, local content, and socio-economic obligations across all plants.
- Oversee stakeholder engagement strategies at plant level.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, regulatory, and permitting requirements.
Continuous Improvement & Standardisation
- Drive standardisation of processes, procedures, and systems across all plants.
- Capture and implement lessons learned across the portfolio.
- Establish best practices and continuous improvement frameworks.
