Job Description Summary
GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear (GVH) is seeking a Senior EHS Specialist – Construction & Capital Projects to support the safe execution of construction and equipment installation activities for the Wilmington, North Carolina site. In this individual contributor role, you will initially support the construction and equipment installation for the Natrium Fuel Fabrication manufacturing facility in Wilmington and provide support for additional GE Vernova EHS activities.
Reporting to the GE Hitachi EHS Manager, this role is well suited for a senior-level individual contributor who can operate independently, influence cross-functional teams, and provide visible field leadership in support of construction and equipment installation safety, and regulatory compliance.

Essential Responsibilities
This is an individual contributor role. The position requires strong ownership, sound judgment, field leadership, and the ability to influence safe project outcomes across contractors, engineering partners, and site teams.
The successful candidate will work closely with facilities engineers, radiation safety professionals, outside engineering firms, equipment suppliers, manufacturing operations, quality, sourcing, other EHS professionals, regulators, external contractors and vendors to help ensure work is planned and executed safely, compliantly, and efficiently.
In this role, you will:
Provide EHS leadership and project support for construction and equipment installation activities associated with the Natrium Fuel Fabrication Facility and additional Wilmington, NC facility projects.
Work with facilities engineers, outside engineering firms, equipment suppliers, and external contractors to support the safe installation of new equipment and facility systems.
Conduct routine field safety assessments, inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and drive corrective and preventive actions.
Promote a strong safety culture and Safety Conscious Work Environment (SCWE) through visible field presence, coaching, and workforce engagement.
Ensure compliance with GE Vernova standards and all applicable company, local, state, federal, and site-specific safety requirements. This includes both industrial and radiation protection safety.
Support implementation of GVH's EHS management system, including policy deployment, training, inspections, auditing, risk assessment, event management, and performance analysis.
Partner cross-functionally with Nuclear Fuel Manufacturing Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Facilities, Sourcing, EHS, Quality, and project stakeholders to support safe and effective project execution.
Participate in kick-off meetings, project status reviews, site visits, readiness meetings, and leadership reviews to ensure EHS and compliance requirements are integrated into execution plans.
Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses, ensuring timely reporting and effective corrective action closure.
Track, analyze, and report project and safety performance metrics, identify trends, and recommend continuous improvement opportunities. Utilize the Gensuite EHS software suite, to document incidents and events, employee hours and I&I rates, risk assessments, corrective actions, etc.
Support interactions with regulatory agencies, customers, vendors, and external partners in a professional and compliant manner.
Solve problems in a fast-paced project environment, including issues involving changing field conditions, installation challenges, and critical timelines.
Maintain after-hours availability via company-issued cell phone, as required.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline, OR 10 years of relevant experience in industrial safety, construction safety, or nuclear safety.
Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in construction, industrial EHS, facilities management, nuclear safety, nuclear operations or closely related discipline.
Eligibility Requirements
For Controlled Access Area work, must be able to successfully pass Nuclear Safety Training; follow strict radiation protection, criticality, and industrial safety requirements; and wear required protective clothing.
Ability to walk up and down stairs, move around equipment, and maintain routine field presence in active construction and industrial environments.
Ability to work at heights and enter confined spaces.
Able and willing to work in-person at the Wilmington, NC facility most days.
Must maintain after-hours cell phone availability.
Ability to operate a computer.
Desired Characteristics
Technical degree or advanced education in Environmental, Health and Safety, Radiation Protection, Fire Protection, Engineering, Construction Project Management, or a related field.
Experience in the nuclear industry or another highly regulated industrial environment.
Knowledge of nuclear fuel manufacturing license requirements and work practices applicable to controlled access areas.
Experience supporting new facility construction, capital projects, facilities upgrades, and plant/equipment installation.
Experience in construction safety, rigging and lifting operations, environmental compliance, industrial hygiene, industrial equipment installation.
Experience with radiation protection, Special Nuclear Material (SNM) licensed activities
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or similar credential preferred.
Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical or regulatory issues clearly.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to develop practical solutions for complex field and compliance challenges.
Demonstrated experience working with government and regulatory agencies.
Demonstrated understanding of construction processes, contractor oversight, and field hazard recognition.
Experience with controlled documentation and documentation change management.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and influence others across functions without direct authority.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with P6 or similar scheduling tools.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $113,100.00 and $188,500.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
