Classification: Part-Time Regular
Hours: Typical shifts are approximately 16 hours (5:30 PM - 9:30 AM)
Pay Rate: $15.40/hour
This is a part-time regular position starting in April and working up to an average of 24 hours per week annually in an ongoing capacity. Work schedules may vary week to week, month to month, or seasonally based on operational needs.
Summary:
Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking a Campout Leader to assist with the Sleeping Bag Safari education program, which hosts overnight educational programming year-round. Programs are held during the week as well as over the weekend. This position reports directly to the Manager of Overnight and Outdoor Experiences.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

Organizing materials for the evening's events.

Lead the programming and interpreting information to the public.

Become familiar with assigned group each evening.

Facilitate an educational program during the entirety of the campout, which requires presence for the full overnight event.

Basic facility maintenance.

Communicate with the guests, supervisors, and overnight security.

Assist in the registration and scheduling process for campout programs.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must be at least 18 years old.

Applicants must be available for both week night and weekend night campouts and have the ability to work at least 1 overnight per month. Commitment to a regular day of the week is preferable.

High school graduate or GED is required. Biology, environmental, wildlife, or education background recommended.

Excellent leadership and communication qualities.

Ability to work independently and in group settings.

Must be flexible and adaptable to different circumstances.

Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Working Conditions/Physical Effort:
-
Will work extended/odd hours including weekends, holidays and overnight programs.

Must be able to walk long distances across the zoo.
-
Will work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
-
Able to work in inclement weather conditions including, but not limited to, high and low temperatures, sun, snow, ice, wind, rain, mud and/or dust.

Must be able to stand, sit, kneel, bend, twist, reach above head and climb.

Will lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds using safe and proper lifting methods.
