Engineers and Geoscientists BC is currently searching for a Practice Advisor I (Climate Change & Sustainable Initiatives) to join our team in Burnaby on a 12-month contract!
In an effort to help build Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s capacity to support the day-to-day practice of BC’s professional engineers and professional geoscientists, the Practice Advisor I is responsible for identifying, developing and monitoring professional and ethical practice resources and requirements. They provide interpretation and education on these resources and requirements to Engineers and Geoscientists BC, registrants, government, members of the public and a wide variety of other interested and affected parties.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Provides professional practice and ethical advice to registrants, the public, provincial and municipal government, and other interested and affected parties.
- Project manages the development and revision of low complexity professional practice guidelines and practice advisories, particularly those focused on climate change and sustainability. Level 1 is expected to effectively manage a minimum of two less-complex guidance projects at any given time.
- As directed by their Manager and with Manager oversight, develops and maintains working relationships with other Engineers and Geoscientists BC departments, teams, and individuals to develop efficiencies, streamline knowledge, and collaborate on various initiatives.
- May assist their Manager or Practice Advisor Level 2 or 3 in liaising with other regulators on professional practice resources and guidance. May be called upon to support organizational initiatives related to practice boundaries and climate change and sustainability.
- May assist their Manager or Practice Advisor Level 2 or 3 in supporting and raising awareness on the professional reliance model in BC by engaging with provincial and municipal government and the public such as attending and presenting at conferences, commenting on demand-side legislation, and collaborating with others.
- May be called upon to identify opportunities for proactive regulatory approaches in emerging climate change, sustainability and environmental science, policy, and technology developments.
- Other duties as assigned by direct leader and, as appropriate, members of the departmental leadership team.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
The successful applicant will possess the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geoscience, or similar.
- Must be a registered professional with, or eligible to be registered with, Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EIT, GIT, P.Eng., Eng.L., P.Geo., or Geo.L.).
- 2+ years of experience working within a firm where the practice of professional engineering/geoscience is the core aspect of their operations, or working as part of an engineering or geoscience team to apply science to solve technical issues.
- 1+ years of experience writing and submitting formal technical reports.
- 1+ years of experience in Project Management or similar applicable experience.
- Strong technical analysis and writing skills.
- Experience leading/facilitating meetings with clients, registrants, and/or others.
- Experience working collaboratively within a team environment.
- Knowledge and experience in applying a climate change and sustainability lens.

This role offers a competitive compensation and benefits program including a salary within our hiring range of $76,500 to $86,000.
