SUMMARY
The Environmental Project Manager leads environmental compliance, site remediation activities, managing external consultants and regulatory interactions. We are seeking an Environmental Project Manager to manage remediation projects. You will be at the forefront of managing complex cleanup and implementation of remedial actions. This role requires a hands-on leader who can navigate stringent regulatory frameworks, manage multi-disciplinary consultant teams, and deliver audit-ready solutions that mitigate environmental risk and support long-term site sustainability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Core Remediation Duties
Remedial Design & Implementation: Develop and execute site-specific remedial action plans (RAPs) and design strategies, including techniques like soil vapor extraction, pump-and-treat, or bioremediation.
Technical Reporting & Documentation: Prepare and review detailed technical reports, work plans, and regulatory submittals for agencies like the EPA.
Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory correspondence and negotiations regarding cleanup standards and project milestones.
Sampling & Analysis Overseeing: Manage the collection of environmental media (soil, water, vapor) and interpret laboratory data to evaluate risk and project progress.
System Operations & Maintenance: Oversee the installation, troubleshooting, and optimization of active remediation systems to ensure peak performance and compliance.
Project Management & Oversight
Financial & Resource Management: Manage project budgets, forecasts, cost estimates, and financial controls to ensure projects are delivered on time and within financial targets.
Subcontractor & Vendor Management: Procure and supervise specialized vendors, including drillers, labs, and hazardous waste removal crews.
Stakeholder Communication: Coordinate project status updates with clients, internal leadership, and community stakeholders to maintain transparency and project momentum.
Compliance
Depending on site processes, the role may support compliance with: air permitting and emissions management (including VOCs/HAPs), hazardous waste (RCRA), wastewater and pretreatment, stormwater/industrial runoff (NPDES), SPCC where applicable, chemical inventory and reporting (e.g., EPCRA/SARA), and management of regulated materials common to aerospace manufacturing (solvents, coatings, acids/caustics, plating chemistries, oils, refrigerants).
Responsible for the Environmental Training with Safety, Hazardous Waste, and Chemical Handling in compliance with OSHA regulations.
Responsible for plant wastewater effluents, necessary permits, surcharge and fee requirements.
Responsible for solid and hazardous waste disposal, necessary manifests and logs, taxation, and fee requirements.
Ensures training and communication initiatives are provided to all employees required to bring any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management’s attention immediately.
Continually seek opportunities to improve our HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting our results.
Performs HSE audits and corrects deficiencies.
Develop and Implement HSE-related programs.
Conduct Environmental Monitoring, evaluate work environments, and make recommendations for controlling workplace and environment (internal and external) exposures.
Responsible for regulatory update compliance.
Completes all Federal and State required reports and forms concerning Heath, Safety and Environmental issues.
Coordinates Environmental training in compliance with OSHA regulations.
Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices, in order to ensure compliance with HSE standards and government regulations.
Evaluates and engages in projects that would reduce hazardous waste and assists in the implementation of Environmental improvements
Ensure that the necessary resources are available to guarantee the limitation of the environmental impacts of his/her service/department

Supervisory Responsibilities
Has indirect supervisory responsibility for supervisors and managers in his assigned facilities. ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's Degree (B.S) in Environmental Science/ Engineering/ Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related discipline
Minimum 6 + years of environmental services, management experience in the Aerospace Industry or Manufacturing environment preferred.
Minimum 6 + years in environmental services or completion of a Hazardous Management program from any of the California State Universities; equivalent combination of education and experience.
Familiarity with California and Federal environmental laws preferred.
Customer interface/interaction experience related to understanding customer specifications, quality, and satisfaction required.
Experience in aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments is strongly preferred, especially exposure to surface finishing, coatings/paint operations, machining coolants, and wastewater treatment/pretreatment systems. ISO 14001 EMS experience (implementation, auditing, or maintenance) is a plus. Professional certifications such as CHMM, CSP, or a PMP (or equivalent project management training) are desirable.
