Shelby Farms Park Conservancy (SFPC) is the nonprofit that manages and cares for Shelby Farms Park and Shelby Farms Greenline in Memphis, TN. SFPC is responsible for daily management, fundraising to meet operational budget needs, setting the vision for the Parks future, and stewarding its natural resources. SFPC team members are committed to our vision of creating a celebrated 21st-century park that defines and shapes a great city that provides inclusive, equitable, and free access for every resident of the Memphis area.
At 4,500 acres, Shelby Farms Park in Memphis, Tennessee is one of the largest urban
parks in the country. Today, the Park features miles of paved and unpaved trails, dozens of lakes and ponds, the internationally recognized and sustainably designed Woodland Discovery Playground, a buffalo herd, the FedEx Event Center, a water play sprayground, an outdoor event stage overlooking an 80-acre lake, a treetop adventure course and more.
Job Description
Position Summary
The Sales Associate is responsible for working with Park guests, selling various goods + merchandise in the Lake’s Edge Gift Shop or Pine Lake Outpost at Shelby Farms Park, as well as assisting with other needs of Park events and activities, all while maintaining an atmosphere of warm, friendly customer service. This position will report directly to the Retail + Sales Coordinator, to meet overall guest experience, revenue, and fundraising goals for Shelby Farms Park.
Duties + Areas of Responsibility
- Deliver the Park standard and reputation of above and beyond customer service.
- Accurately completes customer purchases and process all payment tenders via POS
- Ensures the gift shop area achieves the highest standards of cleanliness and presentation
- Follow opening and closing shift procedures.
- Establishes personalized yet professional rapport with customers
- Completes any other duty assigned by the Retail + Sales Coordinator, Sales + Marketing Manager, and/or Director of Sales + Events
- Assist with merchandise sales for fundraising events throughout the year, including Starry Nights holiday light show.
- Maintain a working knowledge of park amenities, programs, mission, and operational times for various locations to assist guests best.

- Flexible Schedule: Must be available to work weekends and some holidays/school breaks
- Excellent communication skills and desire to provide a friendly and enjoyable customer experience while working well with your team
- Elicits confidence and builds rapport
- Experience with cash handling

Physical Demands + Working Environment
- Ability to stand or walk constantly during shift
- Must have physical agility and the ability to handle objects carefully
- Ability to lift or move objects of 30-40 lbs

The typical work week can range from 8 to 20 hours. Weekend shifts are typically 6-8 hours. There are occasional 2-5 hour event-oriented shifts on evenings and weekends.
