MARKETING ASSISTANT

SEASONAL OR NON-SEASONAL: Part-Time, Seasonal, Non-Benefited
FLSA STATUS: Hourly, Non-Exempt
SPECIAL NOTE: This is a part-time commitment of 15 hours per week for 16 weeks (May 4–August 21)
POSITION SUMMARY: Create engaging digital content that shares the Zoo’s animals, events, and conservation mission through social media, photography, video, and graphic design. This part-time seasonal position supports day-to-day content creation, helping capture the energy of the Zoo and turn it into scroll-stopping posts.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 18 years of age with a valid Michigan Driver’s License
- Experience creating social media content for a brand, organization, or personal portfolio
- Proficiency in Canva and/or CapCut or other editing software
- Basic photography and video skills using phone or DSLR
- Strong writing and proofreading skills
- Organized, self-motivated, able to meet deadlines
- Comfortable working outdoors and walking the Zoo grounds
- Available evenings/weekends during events
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Capture photo and video content of animals, events, guests, and behind-the-scenes moments
- Create graphics for social media, web, email, and digital signage
- Draft captions and schedule posts across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn
- Assist with short-form video editing (Reels/TikTok style content)
- Cover special events (evenings/weekends occasionally required)
- Maintain content calendar and asset library
- Follow brand guidelines for voice, style, and visual identity
- Monitor engagement and report basic metrics (likes, reach, clicks, etc.)
- Support other marketing projects as assigned
- Performing job using ladders and working on various terrains.
- Communication with Marketing Manager and other department managers to relay information, important facts, and ideas that affect other staff, the zoo’s operation or guest experiences.
- Ability to relate positively and respectfully at all times with diverse groups of people including guests, volunteers, peers, co-workers, other departments or companies within the zoo, and vendors.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assisting staff with emergency situations as necessary.
- Communicating effectively using a hand held radio.
- Complying with all Binder Park Zoo policies and procedures.
- Participating in team oriented zoo projects as needed.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including long hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to read, speak and write English in order to fulfill job functions in an understandable way.
- Ability to work outdoors, off trail, and in all weather conditions.
