We are looking for a Geoscientist (Degree) Apprentice to be a part of the future of our Geo-Environmental Management, Sustainability and Geotechnical Engineering business.

Monday to Friday (flexible timings per day) (including time to attend Degree Apprenticeship with your Training Provider at Keele University – NOTE: attendance at Keele is a blend of remote access and attending on campus, staying in local accommodation during any periods of study/training on campus, which allows our apprentices to be located at any of our UK offices)

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at one of our local offices, and travel to sites across the UK and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff within dedicated geological, environmental management and land assessment teams.
What you’ll do at work
Our apprenticeships are designed to give you an insight into a wide variety of areas of work and the chance to explore where your skills and interests lie.
Through a combination of on-the-job learning and practical skills development, you’ll work on real projects from day one that offer scale and variety, collaborating with others and creating meaningful impact on the world around us. At the end of the apprenticeship you will also work towards membership with a professional body (eg. Geological Society or equivalent).
Not only will you gain valuable 'on the job' experience and work towards professional qualifications but you'll also earn a meaningful salary from day one.
Here’s what your role as an apprentice will involve:
- Developing your skills in a wide range of exciting projects, both in the office and on site
- Learning and using relevant assessment and design software
- Being involved in client meetings and assisting in building key client relationships
- You’ll get to understand and learn digital skills, to help us harness technology in new ways
- Your mentors will support you as you study towards nationally recognised qualifications and accreditation
- You'll have dedicated time to spend on your University studies (averages at 1 day per week / year)

At the end of this Apprenticeship you will have completed and achieved a Degree Apprenticeship in Geosciences which includes a BSc (Hons) Geoscience Degree awarded by Keele University.
The Degree Apprenticeship will include relevant field trips to support your learning.
Teaching will take place remotely and on campus at Keele University, Keele, Newcastle, Staffordshire ST5 5BG.
As well as formal lectures and remote accessed directed study, the apprenticeship allows you to learn whilst you work on projects with RSK, and an “apprenticeship standard” outlines the core skills, knowledge and behaviours you will develop and be assessed in, alongside core duties.
You will be studying the Geoscientist (degree apprenticeship) Level 6 (ST1356 v1.1 Apprenticeship Standard).
Requirements
Essential qualifications
A levels ‘BBB’, or BTEC ‘DDM’, or Int. baccalaureate ‘29’ typically expected.
Applicants aged 16-18 at the start of the apprenticeship must hold GCSE qualifications in both Maths and English at Grade C (4) or an equivalent qualification.

We can often adjust the permissible entry qualifications by discussion with the University admission tutors, and we aim to be as flexible as we can to take advantage of a diverse range of skills that applicants from a wide variety of backgrounds may bring with them that can be highly beneficial to our multi-disciplinary business needs.
Skills
Communication and IT skills, team working, creativity and enthusiasm to learn new things are essential requirements to succeed in a consultancy environment, but thorough training is provided to enhance your overall capabilities during your apprenticeship.
Other requirements
The role will involve a mix of office and site-based tasks. It is worth noting that this can include working on open greenfield / construction sites / operational buildings for extended periods of time, involving some travel around the UK, for which it is essential that you have a valid UK driving licence.
This mode of working provides for an invaluable varied experience of great benefit towards successfully completing your degree apprenticeship. Apprentices will need to be flexible to accommodate the needs of the business and training.
