The team | Global Retail
The Global Retail organisation is end-to-end functional responsible for the three retail segments: Private Individuals, Business Banking, and Private Banking & Wealth Management. Key responsibilities will be: to define and cascade down the segment strategy, manage commercial and financial performance, and first line risk and regulatory responsibilities. In our Global Retail strategy, Superior Customer Experience and Sustainability at heart in a safe & secure environment are the key enablers of business growth.
The head office teams will accumulate segment intelligence and best practices, ensure segment-wide consistency and scale successful local initiatives across the three segments.

Roles and responsibilities
This role supports the execution of ING’s Retail Sustainability strategy, being one of the two strategic priorities of ING. It promotes all sustainability related topics (both environment and social), and assists the Retail segments to set ambition levels, mid- and short-term goals. This role identifies initiatives segment-wide, synergetic projects - with the ultimate goal of promoting sustainability in the segments.
As Sustainability Lead, you report to the COE head of Customer Insights & Sustainability. Your responsibilities include:
- Manage and coordinate between the 3 FTEs in the Retail Sustainability CoE, focusing on three topics: Lending, Investment Products and Financial Health.
- Support the development of ING Retail Sustainability Strategy, working with the global heads of the 3 global Segments - Private Individuals, Business Banking and Private Wealth,
- Drive the establishment and set up of consistent sustainability measurement across all Retail markets in both Environmental and Financial Health domains.
- Coordinate cross-country initiatives across the three Segments to ensure we deliver on ING Retail Sustainability Strategy.
- Develop, promote and coordinate sustainability culture across the retail organization
- Coordinate, to support the CoE Lead, sustainability strategy with different relevant stakeholders - Wholesale banking, Risk, Global Sustainability, Country sustainability leads, Global Branding & communication, Global Sustainability, inter-banks initiatives, etc.
- Develop and maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media
- Communication: able to effectively communicate technical concepts and results to business audiences

As Sustainability lead, you have excellent communication skills: persuasive and a natural communicator. With proven stakeholder management skills, you are able to ‘get people on board’ and ensure necessary buy-in from stakeholders, both internal and external. You do have ability to work in a highly complex and dynamic environment. You see the big picture and you are able to anticipate changes and developments and realize goals.
Furthermore:
- Master’s degree in business administration, Economics or Finance and 5-8 years in an international setting in the financial industry
- Strong experience in retail banking including understanding of large scale transformation
- Understanding of core retail products and business models, especially mortgages, payments, investments, and Business Banking lending
- Sound understanding of Sustainability and understand stakeholders’ demand in the broadest sense on this topic and specifically what it requires for banking.
- Problem analysis & judgment: ability to develop complex, non-standard analyses
- Investigative and learns quickly whilst creating a learning environment that contribute fostering an empowering culture
- You are fluent in written and spoken English
