Description
The Commercial Solar Lead is responsible for leading a crew of installers and installation projects. Responsibilities include hands-on system installation, ensuring site safety, reading technical plans, and assisting with on-site coordination. This role is hands-on, involving the physical installation of commercial solar systems while ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Lead on-site installation projects, ensuring quality and compliance with company standards.
- Ensure and enforce crew safety by regularly communicating and adhering to Site Safety Plans.
- Perform physical installation of systems/equipment (including but not limited to wiring, mounting, and assembling).
- Read and interpret technical drawings, plans, and/or instructions.
- Use power tools, ladders, digging equipment, and other tools while adhering to safety plans and guidelines.
- Communicate with clients, supervisors, and other applicable stakeholders regarding project status.
- Identify and resolve issues that arise during installations.
- Ensure job sites are kept clean, organized, and safe.
- Professionally and efficiently complete required paperwork.
- Monitor crew goal achievements and communicate applicable metrics to stakeholders.
- Delegate tasks to Installers and monitor on-site progress.
Skills/Qualifications
- 1 or more years leading solar installation experience (required).
- 2+ years of rooftop or construction experience (required).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and basic tool knowledge.
- Ability to read blueprints or installation diagrams.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organization skills..
- Basic leadership abilities and willingness to grow into a lead role.

- Positive and professional demeanor.
- Ability and willingness to drive a company vehicle and/or trailer for work-related purposes; and meet the company’s driving standards/requirements.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Must successfully complete and clear an MVR (motor vehicle report) background screen.
- Must complete, obtain, and maintain DOT (Department of Transportation) Medical Certification, as required.
- Must complete, acquire, and maintain Registered Unlicensed Electrician registration or other necessary certifications as required by locality.
Physical Requirements
- Comfortable working extended hours in extreme environments/climate (cold, heat, wind, etc) (frequent).
- Regularly encounter pitched roofs, at heights (with proper safety gear).
- Prolonged periods of walking, standing, and lifting (frequent).
- Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50-75 pounds. at a time (frequent).
- Must be able to transport and drive for short and long distances for work related events/job sites and be able to travel with crew for occasional overnight, or multiple night, trips within our service area (including but not limited to: IL, IA, MN, WI).
Compensation & Benefits
- This is a full-time position (non-exempt/overtime eligible) with a pay rate of $25.00 - $35.00 hourly, with additional opportunities for pay increases at 90 days and 180 days based on performance.
- This position is prevailing wage eligible.

- PTO accrual per hour will be .03847, up to 80 hours annually (120 hours annually after year 1).
