DescriptionThe Department of Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Health Science at Benedict College invites applications for full-time tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position in Environmental Health Science beginning in Fall 2025. The successful candidate will support the continued growth of Benedict College’s EHAC-accredited EHS program.
We are seeking individuals with strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research and service to the community and the College. Candidates should be able to teach a range of introductory and upper-level courses, such as Environmental Toxicology, Environmental Epidemiology, and Biostatistics. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the Benedict College Mission. A doctoral degree in Environmental Health Science or a related field is required.
Applicants for the rank of Assistant Professor must demonstrate strong potential as an effective instructor and student mentor, and be able to obtain funding to support an undergraduate research program. Applicants for the rank of Associate Professor should have at least 3 years of experience as an effective instructor, mentor, and have an established research agenda.

QualificationsPRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITY
- Teach lower and upper-level environmental health science lecture and laboratory courses, as well as general education courses, that align with professional expertise and the needs of the department;
- Participate in curriculum development and contribute to the department’s planning and growth;
- Advise students and providing individual help to students during weekly office hours;
- Provide academic and career advising to students in the major;
- Establish an active undergraduate research program supported by external funding;
- Perform regular scholarly research and publication;
- Assist with student recruitment and retention;
- Provide service to the department, school, college, community, and profession;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to teach lower and upper-level undergraduate environmental health science courses
- Knowledge in pedagogy and teaching techniques for first-time college students and students from underserved populations;
- Effective instructional delivery and use of instructional technology;
- Ability to actively engage students in the learning process;
- Ability to conduct respectful relationships with students both in and outside the classroom;
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Ph.D. in Environmental Health Science or closely related field.
