Position Overview
Agronomists serve as the subject matter expert for The Andersons specialty liquids portfolio, providing agronomic guidance, product expertise, and field-based insights that strengthen customer confidence and support sales team effectiveness. This role works closely with territory managers to educate growers on product value, explain anticipated performance, and support informed product decisions without carrying pricing or sales responsibilities.
In this role, agronomists contribute to product innovation, support field testing, and provide clear recommendations based on data and field observations. This position gathers competitive insights, monitors emerging agronomic practices, and delivers training to customers and sales teams to ensure strong product understanding and responsible, effective use across key crops.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all specialty products, their application, performance, and agronomic value.
- Accompany Agricultural Territory Managers on field visits to major customers and prospects to support specialty product sales efforts (no pricing responsibilities).
- Deliver comprehensive training programs to diverse audiences, including Specialty TMs, Wholesale TMs, and Farm Center sales teams.
- Provide expert agronomic consultation to customers and prospects, offering product recommendations and nutrient management programs.
- Lead and support research trials, including trial design, scouting, data analysis, and the development of marketing- and research-ready insights.
- Maintain deep expertise on competitive products and clearly articulate differentiation, advantages, and performance comparisons.
- Partner closely with ANDE Farm Center leadership to strengthen sales capabilities, support customer engagements, and enhance product recommendation accuracy.
- Contribute to product innovation by identifying new product opportunities, collaborating with R&D and Marketing on development and commercialization, and advising on product portfolio adjustments.
- Gather and communicate field insights, product performance feedback, and customer learnings to leadership to inform strategy and product development.
- Collaborate with internal agronomists to monitor trends, emerging technologies, and innovative agronomic practices.
- Apply and promote 4R Nutrient Stewardship principles in crop production recommendations.
- Conduct and interpret nutrient analyses, including soil and tissue testing.
- Utilize precision agriculture technologies to develop informed recommendations for growers and sales teams.
- Support the implementation of ANDE products using sustainable and environmentally sound farming practices.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree required (Agronomy, Plant Physiology, or related field preferred)
- 5 -10 years’ relevant experience required (3 - 5 years professional agronomy experience preferred)
- Prior farm center retail and/or plot testing experience preferred
Physical Requirements and Working Environment
- Ability to travel 50% or more, as required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
- Demonstrated ability to actively listen, understand customer needs, and provide tailored solutions based on product benefits.
- Strong presentation skills, with experience delivering both in-person and virtual training or customer-facing sessions.
