The Director of Commercial Assets - DG at QE Solar is responsible for managing the performance and commercial operations of solar and battery storage assets interconnected at distribution level (distributed generation). The Director will accomplish this by developing and managing a team of dedicated Commercial Asset Managers and Portfolio Leads. The team will oversee customer account management, asset performance optimization, new site onboarding, regulatory compliance, and support business development initiatives. The Director will be a key figure in maintaining client relationships and ensuring operational excellence across the company’s portfolio of commercial solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

The Director of Commercial Assets will also be responsible for helping to maintain & improve the culture of excellence within the Business Unit. Employee development is a key responsibility of this role. The ability to lead a team in pursuit of business goals and objectives is a must.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
Supervision of Team Members (50%)
- Oversee the day-to-day work of Commercial Asset Managers, ensuring work is complete in accordance with company standards.
- Conduct regularly scheduled on-on-one meetings with direct reports to provide regular & timely feedback on performance.
- Serve as the point of escalation and guidance for your team members.
- Responsible for the overall performance of your team and assigned team members.
- Be a resource for your team members in areas such as technical information, supervisory guidance / direction, contract interpretation, and business initiatives.
- Be an advocate for your team.
Business Initiatives (35%)
- Monitor the performance of your team as it pertains to the key business metrics.
- Assist in the development and improvement of programs, processes, procedures, and software implementations / enhancements.
- Ensure accurate & timely management of work in the QE Solar Tools (QEST) platform.
- Work within the leadership team to achieve business goals and objectives including but not limited to management of revenue, expenses, and EBITDA.
- Additional KPIs are PM Scheduling Compliance, T&M Billing, internal business process reviews, Site Availability, etc.
Customer Relationships (15%)
- Collaborate with customer representatives / contacts to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Develop & maintain a thorough working knowledge of O&M Service Agreements.
- Escalate customer concerns to Sr. Leadership as appropriate.
Knowledge
- Deep understanding of commercial, industrial, and DG solar and BESS systems, including operations, performance monitoring, and asset optimization.
- Experience managing contractual obligations including but not limited to O&M Service Agreements, Interconnect Agreements, EPC Contracts / Warranties, Power Purchase Agreements, Conditional Use Permits, etc.
- Demonstrate the ability to successfully manage a team of 5 – 10 employees.
- Knowledge of the renewable energy market, including industry trends, and project financing.
- Familiarity with interconnection requirements, and safety standards at the state and federal levels.
- Experience with performance analytics, engineering upgrades, and lifecycle asset management in the solar energy industry.

Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods during the workday. Frequent use of standard office equipment, including computers and telephones. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Ability to travel to various solar and BESS sites, which may include walking over uneven terrain and climbing ladders or stairs to inspect equipment. Must be able to work in outdoor environments during site visits, which may include exposure to various weather conditions.
Working Conditions
Primarily an office-based role with occasional travel to operational sites, client meetings, and conferences. Occasional extended hours during urgent operational issues. Work will be conducted mostly in indoor office environments and occasionally outdoor field locations. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required during site visits. Fast-paced, dynamic work environment that requires flexibility and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Required EducationBachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Renewable Energy), Business Administration, or a related field.
Preferred EducationMaster’s degree in business administration (MBA), or a related field.
Required Experience
- 5+ years of experience in asset management, operations, or project management within the solar, renewable energy, or power generation sectors.
- Proven experience managing customer relationships in a technical or engineering setting.
- Experience in lifecycle management of energy assets.
- 3-5 years managing direct reports
Preferred Experience
- 7+ years of experience managing solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
- Familiarity with energy market regulations and policy developments impacting renewable energy assets.
Preferred Certifications, Licensures, etc.Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) Solar PV Installation Professional Certification.
