Overview
This position is responsible for directing and managing the environmental compliance programs and industrial hygiene programs for manufacturing operations. This position is responsible for identifying opportunities to reduce environmental risk, promote environmental systems, and drive long-term sustainability programs.
Responsibilities
Manages environmental compliance programs including but not limited to: hazardous and non-hazardous waste, universal, infectious and medical waste disposal; hazardous substance reporting including SARA 313 TRI, Tier II; environmental permitting and related monitoring activities; spill prevention and response planning; environmental JSOX compliance; aboveground storage tank management; ODS, asbestos and lead management; radiation safety; and safety data sheet program controls.
Manages and delivers environmental training programs for manufacturing operations. Provides technical guidance on environmental training programs to increase environmental competency.
Manages chemical vetting program to ensure chemicals are evaluated prior to use, chemical inventories are maintained and controlled, and employees are trained. This includes management of the safety data sheet program, chemical labeling, and chemical storage controls.
Responsible for developing and implementing Elliott specific environmental programs and processes to drive improvement such as ISO 14001, energy reduction, waste minimization, pollution prevention, recycling, and sustainability programs.
Maintains compliance with environmental permits (Air, NPDES).
Reports energy, water, and waste tracking data periodically for sustainability purposes.
Manages the industrial hygiene program for manufacturing operations including selection of third-party vendors, evaluation of results, recommendations for engineering and administrative controls, and IH program improvements.
Responsible for working with Sr. EHS Manager – Manufacturing to communicate environmental matters to leadership, internal and external legal counsel, and regulatory authorities.
Manage legacy information and controls critical environmental and industrial hygiene data including third party audit reports, risk assessment reports, and environmental permits through web-based document control systems.
Assist the incident investigation process for environmental matters to ensure root cause(s) are identified and mitigated, identify incident and near miss trends, identify best practices, and implement opportunities for incident prevention.
Remain actively engaged with continuing education relevant to this position in order to maintain certifications and to ensure regulatory changes that may affect environmental compliance are implemented. Required active certifications include, but are not limited to, Pennsylvania Asbestos Building Inspector (or equivalent), DOT Hazardous Materials Certification, Visible Emissions Evaluator Certification (Method 9).
Remain actively engaged with local environmental authorities and consortiums to promote Elliott as an environmental advocate in the communities where we have operations.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Management or related field (or equivalent relevant experience), along with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing, consulting, or regulatory environment.
Strong knowledge in chemical safety and toxicology, industrial hygiene, environmental compliance and permitting, sampling techniques, emission monitoring system, waste management and ISO 14001 environmental management system.
A strong knowledge of computer skills is required (Excel, Word, Power Point and Internet).
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills are essential, as this position must interact with all levels of the organization and regulatory agencies.
