Dow has an exciting and rewarding opportunity for an Environmental Scientist in Midland, MI!
We are looking for a Ph.D. level environmental scientist who is excited about working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team as a member of a world-class chemical industry product safety assessment expertise unit with long-standing history and scientific reputation.
Responsibilities
- Adress product regulatory/compliance and sustainability needs of Dow business units
- Provide technical knowledge to define and assess potential environmental hazards, environmental exposures and risks associated with Dow products, product markets, innovations, processes, and wastes
- Provide expert scientific review and interpretation of environmental data, research reports and publications, and assist Dow businesses with regulatory compliance and the safe use of Dow’s products
- Organize/monitor and conduct environmental fate and toxicology research projects while interfacing with internal and external stakeholders.
- Presentation of scientific research at technical symposia and in peer-reviewed publications is expected in this position
- The person can work autonomously but may consult more experienced scientists for new project areas.
Required Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Toxicology or related scientific discipline (Microbiology, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, etc.)
- Fluency in English, written and spoken
- Prior experience and knowledgeable of environmental fate parameters including the movement of chemicals in air, water, and subsurface and of the physical, chemical, and biological processes that influence the ultimate disposition of chemicals in the environment.
- A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
- A broad knowledge base in environmental science, environmental chemistry, environmental fate and transport is desired
- Prior experience with and understanding of global chemical regulatory requirements (i.e., EU REACH & CLP, USEPA TSCA, Canadian DSL, and recent China and Korea programs) for purposes of product testing and registration.

- Communication: Strong English written and oral communication skills that allow dissemination of complex technical issues in a clear, concise manner.
- Interpersonal Relationships: since this role requires the ability to interface with a variety of scientific subject matter experts as well as non-experts from various geographies.
- Teamwork: A team player who is a self-motivated quick learner with the ability to grasp the “essence”, prioritize and be strategic, and can change course quickly where indicated.
- Continuous Improvement Mindset: Enjoy learning and are open to suggestions and experimentation for improvement.
- Cross Functional work: Ability to build strong relationships with peers and cross-functionally with partners outside of the immediate workgroup.
- Environmental Impact Assessment: Ability to understand and translate environmental fate, transport and ecotoxicological information into recommendations and clear messages for both scientific and non-scientific audiences.
