Job Description Summary:
We are looking for an experienced People Operations Expert to join our People Operations Team to manage Portuguese payroll and local HR administration, ensuring full compliance with labour law and statutory requirements.
This role has a strong hands-on focus on payroll, employment contracts, time & attendance, and HR administration, acting as the local expert for Portugal while collaborating with an international HR team.
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
Manage Portuguese payroll with external provider
Ensure compliance with Portuguese labour law, tax and social security regulations
Prepare, review, and manage employment offers, contracts, and contract changes
Oversee time & attendance, absences, parental leave, and sickness administration in Workday
Coordinate statutory reporting, including “Relatório Único” and audits
Act as the main contact for payroll, benefits, and HR administration queries
Support employee lifecycle administration (onboarding, changes, offboarding)
Liaise with tax advisors, payroll vendors, and external authorities when required
Support continuous improvement and documentation of payroll and HR processes
Experience & Skills
5+ years’ experience in payroll and HR administration in Portugal
Strong knowledge of Portuguese labour law and payroll regulations
Experience with HRIS / payroll systems (Workday is a plus)
Experience managing HR administration in other European countries is a plus
Fluent English is mandatory
Detail-oriented, proactive, focus on excellence, strong communications skills and able to work autonomously
