How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
Field Staff, Development & Engineering Services are responsible for various field operations, monitoring and data collection activities, routine maintenance work, and general construction duties in support of TRCA’s environmental research, inventory and monitoring programs and projects.
Major Responsibilities:
Executes a variety of field work activities in support of terrestrial inventory and monitoring programs.
Assists with planning and preparation for seasonal field activities.
Assists with field observations, data recording, and management and specimen collection
Assists with monitoring activities, including data entry and management, records management, data analysis, report writing, and other duties, as assigned
Assists with vegetation community, flora surveys and monitoring data collection using standardized protocols (e.g. Ecological Land Classification)
Assists with the collection of fauna data (breeding birds) using standardized protocols
Incumbents may also be assigned other duties
Requirement to work non-typical hours for this role such as early mornings, possibility of some weekend work
What will you need to succeed:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)
Minimum pursuing post-secondary diploma or degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences, Engineering or a related field
Valid Class G2 driver’s license
Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies
Knowledge of local terrestrial flora and fauna species and habitat requirements
Ability to use plant keys to identify vascular plant species
Demonstrated ability to read ortho photo imagery and navigate through natural areas
Comfortable working in, on and around water
The ability to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills in a field environment
Ability to communicate effectively with tact and courtesy
Proficiency in MS Office suite
