Job Summary:
Under general supervision, the Maintenance Technician maintains the buildings and grounds of five water plants, twenty-five lift stations and the water pollution control plant (WPCP). Duties include mowing grass, weed eating, pressure washing, sweeping, painting pumps and piping, changing light bulbs and assisting operators repair leaks and clean drying beds. This position supports the Water/Wastewater department and does not require water or wastewater operator licensure.
Description of duties:
Performs general landscaping, maintenance and custodial duties to include the following:
- Mowing grass, weed eating, and removing fallen tree branches.
- Painting pumps and piping, changing light bulbs, assisting operators repair leaks and cleaning drying beds.
- Pressure washing, sweeping, removing trash and debris from grounds.
- Follows established safety and first aid procedures, including proper documentation of accidents.
- Participates in assigned department and organization training and development.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- A valid drivers license is required.
- Previous landscaping and/or light maintenance experience required
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position may be considered.
- Must be able to operate light equipment including hand-tools.
- Work schedule is Mon – Fri 7:30am – 4pm, regular and predictable attendance and punctuality is required.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- More than 50% of the typical workday may be spent walking, sitting, standing and using repetitive motions of the wrists, hands or fingers.
- Between 25% and 50% of the typical workday may be spent climbing stairs, pushing and pulling.
- Less than 25% of the typical day is spent balancing, stooping and/or crouching, kneeling, reaching.
- Sensory abilities required are feeling, grasping and touching with more than 50% of the time spent talking and hearing.
- Visual abilities to perform tasks required are to operate motor vehicles or light to medium equipment and determine the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
- The majority of the work is performed outside with exposure to extreme heat, high humidity and occasionally adverse weather conditions as well occasional extreme cold.
- Will be exposed to hazards such as moving mechanical parts and moving vehicles.
- May be subject to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, oils, odors, dusts, mists, or poor ventilation.
- May be subject to close quarters, such as narrow aisles or passageways/hallways.
- Noise levels are generally considered normal, occasionally loud.
