Overview
The Traceability Engineer is responsible for maintaining, verifying, and improving end-to-end product traceability from raw materials to finished goods.
This role focuses on data integrity, system logic validation, and material flow traceability across Warehouse, Production, and Finished Goods operations by leveraging WMS, SAP, and MES systems.
The position ensures that all traceability-related information is complete, consistent, auditable, and capable of supporting internal reviews, customer inquiries, and regulatory requirements.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Traceability Data Verification
- Perform backward and forward traceability from finished goods shipments to raw material lots.
- Verify traceability records linking raw materials, production batches, pallets, barcodes, and outbound shipments.
- Ensure consistency of traceability data across WMS, SAP, and MES systems.
- System Data & Logic Validation
- Extract and analyze data from WMS, SAP, and MES to assess data accuracy and logic consistency.
- Identify abnormal data patterns, such as:
- Outbound shipment time earlier than inbound receipt time
- Quantity mismatches between systems
- Missing or incorrect batch, pallet, or barcode information
- Identify system-level gaps or logic issues and propose improvement solutions.
- Material Flow Traceability Control
Focus on traceability for:
- Raw material flow from the warehouse to the production line
- Finished goods flow from the production line to the warehouse
- Ensure material movement is fully recorded and traceable at each control point.
- CAPA Management
- Document traceability issues and initiate Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Conduct root cause analysis for data, system, or process gaps.
- Track CAPA implementation and verify effectiveness until closure.
- On-site Patrol & SOP Audit
- Conduct daily or periodic patrols on production lines and warehouses.
- Audit execution of traceability-related SOPs, including labeling, scanning, segregation, and data recording.
- Identify potential traceability risks and report nonconformities.
- Cross-functional Coordination
- Work closely with Warehouse, Production, IT, QA, and Planning teams to resolve traceability issues.
- Support internal audits, management reviews, and traceability-related investigations.
- Reporting
- Prepare daily traceability records, CAPA logs, and weekly traceability reports for management.
- Provide data-driven insights on traceability risks, trends, and system improvement opportunities.
Key Requirements & Competencies
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Information Systems, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, traceability, supply chain, quality systems, or data analysis.
- Hands-on experience with ERP / MES / WMS systems (SAP preferred).
- Strong data analysis skills (Excel required; Power BI or similar tools preferred).
- Solid understanding of manufacturing material flow and batch management logic.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify data inconsistencies and process gaps.
- Good communication and cross-functional coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple traceability tasks simultaneously.
