Description
The Part-Time Educatoris responsible for presenting educational information to visitors at the Zoo’sanimal habitats, events, programs, animal experiences, and interpretive Discovery Stations. Theyalsoassistwith animal encounters for summer programs.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Facilitate conversations and brief presentations for guests to help them learn about Zoo New England's animals, conservation efforts, andmission, and about how guests can help.
- Act as a goodwill guide by answering visitor questions.
- Provide excellent customer service and positive interactions with all Zoo guests and employees.
- Facilitate guest interactions through regularly scheduled chats, as well as facilitate hands-on activities and biofact exploration as part of Discovery Stations.
- Assist with education programs as needed, includingevents, animal experiences, and summer camp.
- Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, interns, andalso work independently on projects and presentations.
- Assume other duties as assigned by the Education Manager.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Available to work 28hours per week (7hours/day) including Saturday and/or Sunday
- Ability to address groups of all ages and aptitudes
- Ability to provide excellent customer service to ZNE customers, clients, and employees
- Excellent oral presentation skills
- Able to work independently as well as part of a team; ability to work well with Zoo staff and project partners.
- A strong desire to deliver ZNE’s messages, mission, and goals to our visitors
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Willingness to spend long periods of time outdoors
- Ability to navigate over uneven terrain in all weather.
- Must pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check and/or a Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) check
- Must agree to abide by all Zoo New England regulations concerning safety and conduct
Preferred Job Requirements
- Previous experience working with children
- Previousexhibit interpretation experience
- Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply
- Preferred candidates are usually enrolled inan undergraduate program or studies in zoology, education, biology, or a related field, or they have related life experience
- Current CPR / First Aid certification
Hours, Location, and Term of Appointment
Hours:8:30am-4:00pm weekdays, 9:00am-4:30pm weekends,4 days/week including Saturday and/or Sunday
Location: Franklin Park Zoo
Term: April– October
Salary: $17.25/hr
