The Role
We're seeking a visionary Director of Environmental Health and Safety to lead our national EHS strategy across Riot's growing data center portfolio. You will ensure regulatory compliance, drive continuous improvement, and foster a proactive culture of safety and sustainability. This role requires close collaboration with senior leaders across construction, operations, compliance, legal, HR, and security to embed safety into every aspect of our business. You will have responsibility for oversight of multiple regions within the United States and a national responsibility for driving EHS success related to the development of utility infrastructure. This role demands a visionary leader with a strong focus on strategic execution, data-driven decision-making, and global harmonization of EHS practices.
This role will be based out of our Denver, CO office. Relocation assistance is available for out of state candidates.
What You'll Do
- Develop and implement EHS policies, procedures, and strategic plans tailored to data center operations and utility infrastructure
- Establish enterprise-wide safety performance metrics and reporting systems
- Lead audits, risk assessments, training programs, and incident investigations to drive continuous improvement
- Build and mentor a national team of EHS professionals, ensuring consistency and excellence across all sites
- Own the global EHS roadmap and lead strategic initiatives across all regions
- Conduct complex risk assessments and oversee implementation of enterprise-level mitigation strategies
- Monitor regulatory landscapes and ensure proactive compliance strategies
- Present actionable safety insights to executive and board-level stakeholders
- Champion innovation in EHS technologies, analytics, and best practices
What We're Looking For
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation
- 12+ years of progressive EHS experience, ideally in utilities and/or data center environments
- Proven track record driving cultural transformation and implementing risk control strategies at scale
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations
- Excellent leadership skills managing multi-site teams and cross-functional disciplines
- Critical thinking ability to analyze complex risk scenarios and develop mitigation strategies
- Ability to influence and empower internal and external stakeholders
- Bachelors in Environmental, Health and Safety or a related science/engineering discipline with coursework in risk management or safety is preferred
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive Salary: Base salary range $180,000 - $200,000 (commensurate with experience and location) + sign-on equity grant + bonus.
