Summary
This internship will work during the summer; 40 hours per week, typically 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday for approximately 14 weeks (May-September)
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide communications support for city environmental topics, such as Enhanced Street Sweeping, Watering Restrictions, Curbside Recycling/Compost, and environmental stewardship.
- Complete inspections and on-site testing of stormwater best management practices such as infiltration basins and stormwater ponds
- Assist the Environmental Division with the City’s Environmental Strategic Initiative – Environmental Stewardship. This may include data gathering and analysis, review of City Code, and community engagement and communication.
- Assist in updating records within the asset management system related to stormwater and native vegetation
- Investigate and prepare responses to citizen requests and inquiries regarding engineering and environmental topics
- Assist in the general administrative duties of the Environmental Division/Engineering Department including project development, monitoring, and budget preparation
- Create maps, databases, and mailing lists
- Assist with residential drainage complaints and violations
- Assist with projects related to water resources and sustainability within the City
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Minimum of one (1) year vocational or college course work in natural resource management, sustainability, environmental planning, environmental studies, environmental engineering, communications, or a closely related field
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Experience using personal computers (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Valid driver’s license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Student in Sophomore or Junior year of school
- College coursework in mass communication, journalism or related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Skill or interest in photography, videography and editing.
