Summary

This internship will work during the summer; 40 hours per week, typically 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday for approximately 14 weeks (May-September)

Essential Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide communications support for city environmental topics, such as Enhanced Street Sweeping, Watering Restrictions, Curbside Recycling/Compost, and environmental stewardship.
Complete inspections and on-site testing of stormwater best management practices such as infiltration basins and stormwater ponds
Assist the Environmental Division with the City’s Environmental Strategic Initiative – Environmental Stewardship. This may include data gathering and analysis, review of City Code, and community engagement and communication.
Assist in updating records within the asset management system related to stormwater and native vegetation
Investigate and prepare responses to citizen requests and inquiries regarding engineering and environmental topics
Assist in the general administrative duties of the Environmental Division/Engineering Department including project development, monitoring, and budget preparation
Create maps, databases, and mailing lists
Assist with residential drainage complaints and violations
Assist with projects related to water resources and sustainability within the City

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a High school diploma or G.E.D.

Minimum of one (1) year vocational or college course work in natural resource management, sustainability, environmental planning, environmental studies, environmental engineering, communications, or a closely related field
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
Experience using personal computers (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Valid driver’s license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Student in Sophomore or Junior year of school
College coursework in mass communication, journalism or related field.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Skill or interest in photography, videography and editing.
