The Lincoln Public Schools Sustainability Department is looking for two passionate individuals to join our team. LPS Sustainability coordinates district-wide environmental programs and provides support for green school activities.
Sustainability initiatives you may be working with:
- Student, Staff and Community Engagement
- Waste Reduction, Recycling, and Composting Programs
- Gardens, Tree Plantings, and Outdoor Learning
- Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy
- Sustainable Transportation
Sample internship tasks:
- Develop and update educational resources for staff and volunteers
- Support the planning of quarterly Garden Gatherings, the Students of Sustainability Summit, and other events
- Represent LPS Sustainability at community outreach events (e.g., Lincoln Earth Day, school-based Nature Nights, etc.)
- Maintain LPS Sustainability datasets (building energy & water usage, ArcGIS map points, etc.)
- Support communications content development (social media, newsletters, presentation materials, Slack workspace, etc.)
Requirements:
- Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and Google Workspace
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented with ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines
- Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license
Prefer applicants currently pursuing a degree in a related field including, but not limited to: environmental studies, environmental education, environmental science, fisheries and wildlife, etc.
This is a paid position, starting at $15.63/hour.
Candidates should have availability for 15-20 hours/week between the hours of 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday. Internship will begin in May 2026. The end date will be flexible depending on the candidate.
