Program: Division of Science & Research
Program Description: The function of the DSR is to help ensure that the Department’s decision-making is based upon the best possible scientific and technical information. The role of this Division is to provide the Department with, and access to, expertise and information that supports its technical and policy needs. In addition, the Division performs research to meet the information and problem-solving needs, identifies and understands emerging issues that require the Department’s attention and advocates/integrates the multi-disciplinary perspective into the Department’s identification, analysis, and resolution of environmental issues.Project Description: The Chemistry Intern will assist in determining current analytical capability of laboratories to measure various contaminants for the development and setting of standards in various media. The intern will also assist with ongoing research efforts to determine the efficiency of various tools to identify the material of drinking water service lines and to assess subsequent lead release potential. Specific to the Position: Suitable candidates should have knowledge of analytical chemistry and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite. An understanding of basic statistical methods is preferred. This position requires the ability to clearly present complex scientific information in writing and orally.
Preferred Area of Study: Seeking individuals enrolled at an accredited university/college studying one of the Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences/Studies, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences; or in Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Bio-resource Engineering.
License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
