Program: Office of Administrative Hearings & Dispute Resolution
Program Description: The Office of Administrative Hearings and Dispute Resolution (OAHDR) oversees the administrative hearing process and provides alternative dispute resolution services. The OAHDR processes and reviews new adjudicatory hearing requests. You can request an adjudicatory hearing to appeal a permit decision or an enforcement decision. Adjudicatory hearings go through the OAHDR, the Office of Administrative Law, and the Commissioner’s Office to create a final determination. Project Description: The primary project that the intern will work on is the review of first party hearing requests and work on the backlog of open hearing requests. As time allows, the intern may work on other projects related to the first party hearing requests or ADR. The intern will get an overview of the various programs within the Department and the types of matters for which hearings are requested.Specific to the Position: Attention to detail in reviewing hearing requests, strong organizational and case-tracking skills, and clear written communication skills.
Preferred Area of Study: Seeking individuals enrolled at an accredited university/college studying Law, pre-Law, Criminal Justice, or Political Science, with a strong interest in the environment and/or the legal process. This position is best suited for a student enrolled in law school or an undergraduate preparing to enter law school within the next two years.
License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
