Program: Office of Climate Resilience - Bureau of Climate Resilience Planning
Program Description: The Bureau of Climate Resilience Planning (BCRP) provides planning, resources, and technical support to New Jersey’s communities to help them make informed decisions about climate resilience and coastal resources. BCRP is responsible for coordinating with DEP policies, programs, and activities, as well as with non-profit and non-governmental organizations, other state agencies, and academic institutions to plan for the impacts and the associated hazards of climate change, promote public awareness of climate change science, and coordinate the activities of New Jersey’s Coastal Management Program. Project Description: The New Jersey’s Coastal Management Program (CMP) alongside Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve (JC NERR) administers the MyCoast: New Jersey Application. MyCoast: New Jersey is a citizen science photo and data documentation platform that is used to record flood history and teach users about coastal flooding and changes across the state. The Program Research Intern will be responsible for monitoring reports through MyCoast: New Jersey as well as create an Application Usage and Impact Study on the MyCoast: New Jersey application. The appointee will work closely with the application administrator to gain knowledge on the application while conducting a user and data analysis report and compile future goals for the project application. The Intern will be responsible for reviewing the user and data history on the application and evaluate how the application is being used as well as conduct outreach to current and future users to evaluate how the collected data is being used or how it can be used. Additional duties may include creating outreach materials such as content for social media and handouts for tabling events or application promotion.Specific to the Position:Data analysis, outreach and communication, strong organizational skills.
Preferred Area of Study: Seeking individuals enrolled in an accredited university/college who are in their senior year or graduate level program studying Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Communications, Community Planning, Political Science, or other related fields. Applied project or coursework experience with climate-related outreach and stakeholder engagement is highly preferred, where available.
License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
