Program: Division of Science & Research
Program Description: The function of the DSR is to help ensure that the Department’s decision-making is based upon the best possible scientific and technical information. The role of this Division is to provide the Department with, and access to, expertise and information that supports its technical and policy needs. In addition, the Division performs research to meet the information and problem-solving needs, identifies and understands emerging issues that require the Department’s attention and advocates/integrates the multi-disciplinary perspective into the Department’s identification, analysis, and resolution of environmental issues.Project Description: The Offshore Wind Research and Monitoring Initiative (RMI) is administered by NJDEP in collaboration with the Board of Public Utilities. The Initiative seeks to employ a rigorous scientific approach to research and monitoring of marine and coastal resources during the development, construction, operation and decommissioning of offshore wind projects. The Offshore Wind Research and Monitoring Intern will help develop reports, prepare outreach information for social media and the NJDEP website, and review scientific publications and guidance documents related to the potential environmental impacts of offshore wind.Specific to the Position: Strong research and analytical skills, clear written communication for reports/social media content, attention to detail, and ability to translate technical information for public audiences
Preferred Area of Study: Seeking individuals enrolled at an accredited university/college studying Marine Biology, Ecology, or Oceanography; or one of the Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences/Studies, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences.
License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
