DescriptionPOSITION DESCRIPTION: CUSTODIAN / HOUSEKEEPER
The Custodian/Housekeeper position is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and ensuring the health and safety standards of GCC facilities within Grand Canyon National Park. The Custodian/Housekeeper is a member of the Facilities and Maintenance Team and reports to the Facilities Manager.
This part-time position is based on the South Rim and is not eligible for housing. The position is non-exempt and non-benefit-eligible. The starting pay for the position is $17.00 per hour.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties vary with the workload, and could include, but are not limited to, the tasks listed below:
• Performs routine and comprehensive custodial maintenance of GCC facilities (Historic and Non-Historic bldgs., Guest homes: dust and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors, clean windows, polish wood)
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, order and stock facilities with paper and supplies
• Empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers, ashtrays, and recycling containers
• Replace light bulbs as needed
• Wash walls and equipment; wash accessible interior and exterior windows; clean blinds
• Vacuum and shampoo carpets/spot clean, including mopping hard surface floors
• Use, maintain, service assigned power equipment and hand tools; vacuums both Upright and Back-pack models, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc
• Secure building when facilities are not in use; checking for unlocked doors and windows, report any issues / unauthorized occupants, turn off lights, alarms (arm/disarm)
• Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, special events, etc.
• Laundry (bed linens, towels, etc.), including cleaning rags and dust mops
• Rodent and Insect abatement, setting, inspecting, and emptying traps, being aware and following safety guidelines, including Hantavirus
• Assist with inventory control and security; request supplies when running low
• Snow removal, basic landscaping, cleaning, or clearing drains of debris
• Fleet vehicle cleaning washing exterior, cleaning/detailing interior
• Other duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires the incumbent to be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to:
• Lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted) and lifting them into the dumpster
• Regular bending, standing, climbing, and walking
• Must be able to work safely in an environment containing caustic chemicals, cleaning materials, dust, and noise
• Ladder and step ladder use
• Routinely required to work under inclement weather conditions
• General work hours M-F 8-5 pm, some weekend day(s) as needed, for special events or high occupancy.

QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND CHARACTERISTICS
• Ability to work independently, make decisions, and solve problems with limited supervision
• Have essential physical and mental capabilities in the following: attention to detail, interpersonal skills, memory, time management, following directions, reading and comprehension, calculating, deciphering
• Knowledge of maintaining, cleaning, and preserving a variety of surfaces
• Proper use of a wide range of chemicals according to state and federal regulations
• Knowledge of handling and disposing of hazardous materials with care
• Ability to safely operate all vehicles and other job-related equipment
• Ability to use ladders and climb stairs repeatedly as required for work assignments
