Purpose of the Position:
The Environmental Superintendent will lead the department and oversee all aspects of environmental permitting, compliance, and management systems for a long-life, open-pit gold mine. This role will be the primary regulatory contact while also working closely with project, operations, and technical teams. Key responsibilities include managing reporting and recordkeeping, implementing environmental projects, and ensuring alignment with company and regulatory standards.
The operation uses conventional open-pit mining methods with ore processed by mill and heap leach. With recent approvals to expand the optimized open pit, production is expected to continue through the end of the decade, adding ~750,000 Au eq. oz. to life-of-mine output.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Interact and negotiate with regulatory agencies on environmental permits, compliance inspections and other related issues;
- Develop and manage the Environmental Management Plan;
- Communicate and collaborate with Company managers and personnel to clearly understand environmental aspects of construction and operation of the project;
- Interact with internal teams and contractors to implement the Environmental Management Plan;
- Manage outside consultants and contractors working on environmental permitting and construction projects;
- Manage records of all permit compliance requirements and commitments, such as social and environmental standards in finance documents and international standards (Equator Principles, International Finance Corporation, etc.) to which the company has committed;
- Manage the day to day and long-term environmental compliance and permitting responsibilities;
- Supervise preparation and submittal of compliance reports to regulatory agencies, auditors and others;
- Supervise Environmental Engineers and Environmental Technicians;
- Develop and advance long-term permitting strategy.
- Maintain working relationship with regulators, industry working groups and non-governmental agencies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental discipline or related field

Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in environmental compliance and management systems with leadership role required.
- Familiarity with the mining industry strongly preferred.
- Ability to gather, develop and analyze data.
- Familiarity with Nevada environmental regulations.
- Strong safety behaviors including familiarity with and adherence to all MSHA standards required.
- Ability to facilitate collaboration and interaction with internal work teams, government agencies, non-governmental agencies, contractors, and industry associations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and active listening skills.
