Senior Environment Specialist: Qualification and experience: Graduation in Civil
Engineering/Equivalent, and Post-Graduation in Environmental
Engineering/Environmental Science/Management. At least 10 years of overall
experience with 5 years' experience in Environment & Social Impact Assessment
and management of large-scale infrastructure projects, preferably in water resources sector, during last five years at least one of which should be under World Bank funding. The specialist should also have minimum 5 years of experience in ESHS implementation and monitoring for large scale linear project. The specialist should also be fully conversant with formulation of various policy frameworks and action plan in accordance with the safeguard policies of the World Bank, on environmental assessment, natural habitats, pest management and physical cultural resources.
Role: As a part of the Environment & Social unit of the Consultant, the Senior
Environment Specialist will work closely with WPNG and the contractor, for
preparation of ESMP, review and update CESMP of contractors, ESHS aspects in
the bidding documents, monitoring, supervision and reporting of implementation,
and advice the Project Head, and WPNG, about the redressal of any shortcoming in implementation of the ESHS safeguards. He/ She will also co-ordinate with the
statutory agencies and the representatives of the World Bank for necessary support in securing regulatory clearances. For the purpose he/she will make regular visits to the work sites and also provide guidance to the WPNG. She/he will maintain a data base on the status of various ESHS related incidents, issues and submit monthly/quarterly reports accordingly, follow up with the WPNG, various line
Departments of the Govt. of PNG, if required and the relevant World Bank Officials
and perform any other activities related to ESHS issues of the project including
supervision and assisting contractors in implementation of CESMP.
