Job Description and Duties
Under the direction of a Senior Transportation Surveyor, the incumbent performs a variety of professional land surveying tasks in the office that include but are not limited to the following: on‑line digital mapping using GIS of geodetic products, application of California Coordinate System using on‑line GIS digital map products, configuring on‑line digital GIS mapping applications, and compiling professional land surveying data into information.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the TRANSPORTATION SURVEYOR (CALTRANS) exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Special Requirements
- Must possess either a valid Land‑Surveyor‑in‑Training certificate, licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor, or an Engineer‑in‑Training certificate accepted by the California State Board of Registration or graduation from a four‑year curriculum in surveying, surveying engineering, or surveying geomatics accepted by the Accreditation Board for Engineering Technology.
- Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Land Surveying License issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License is highly desirable.
