Job Description and Duties
Under the direction of the Office Chief of Transit & Active Transportation, the Senior Transportation Planner, as the Branch Chief, is responsible for planning and directing the work of Transportation Planners/Associate Transportation Planners engaged in administering Federal Transit Administration (FTA) programs, successful planning, execution, and closeout of State and Federal funded rail and transit projects, and general transit planning and coordination functions for the District. Administrative duties include the distribution of resources and workload, coordination with District Transit Coordination functions, tracking expenditures, dealing with personnel issues, staff development, and other related activities. The work requires strong leadership, communication, partnership, and strategic thinking skills, as well as a deep commitment to the Department's strategic vision, mission, values, and goals, and to advance equity through all efforts.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Transportation Planner exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Special Requirements
- Statement of qualifications (SOQ) required.
The SOQ serves as documentation of each applicant’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. Please follow the instructions below; failure to include and complete the SOQ as instructed may result in the SOQ not being considered and in disqualification from the interview. Each question must be numbered and addressed in the same order as the questions below. The SOQ must be typed, no more than two pages in length, and 12-point Arial font.
Resumes, letters, and other materials will not be considered as your response to the SOQ. The SOQ will be utilized as screening criteria for the hiring interview only and will not be used for the purposes of examination.
- Please describe your experience with administering state and federal transit grants or other transportation programs.
- Please describe your experience with rail, transit, and/or multimodal planning and coordination.
- Please describe your management experience. This may include direct supervision, overseeing work of others, and/or serving in a team lead capacity.
