Ecovyst is on the hunt for an Environmental Engineer to be based at our Houston, Texas plant. The Environmental Engineer will provide compliance support to Eco Services’ Houston, Texas; Baytown, Texas and Orange, Texas manufacturing sites.

What you will be doing:
- Communicate effectively and work in a collaborative fashion with all functions of the business, operations, and maintenance to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and support business growth/initiatives.
- Be visible by ing field and site inspections to enforce adherence to laws, regulations and employer policies governing environmental compliance and responsible operating practices.
- Work with site leadership to problem solve and ensure sustainable systems are implemented/maintained for compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations.
- Serve as a facility liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections and/or regulatory negotiations.
- Monitor regulatory developments and collaborate with site/HS&E team members to develop/implement solutions when needed.
- Promote continuous health, safety, and environmental (HS&E) improvement by participation in site meetings, incident investigations, training, and HS&E compliance auditing.
- Assist as needed in investigation of incidents and non-compliance events to determine contributing factors and recommend remedial actions to prevent reoccurrence. Ensure proper communication of all incidents/non-compliance events consistent with corporate procedures.
- Apply health, safety, environment, and security (HSES) management systems to conform to standards, such as RC14001®:2023.
- Additional responsibilities and changes in responsibilities may be made at the discretion of the Eco Services’ Director of Environment and Sustainability and the Ecovyst VP of Environment & Sustainability.
Qualifications:
- BS in Chemical or Environmental Engineering, or related scientific field.
- 2 or more years of environmental experience in a manufacturing environment (related intern experience of 2 years or less will be taken into account).
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and computer skills. Must be proficient in serving as a change agent within the manufacturing environment and working with site management and HS team members to improve overall HS&E performance.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations, with emphasis on relevant local, state and federal environmental regulations specific to Eco Services manufacturing operations would be a plus.
- Must be an independent, self-motivated individual with the ability to multi-task and administer a broad range of duties including: providing timely resolution of issues that arise, counseling/coaching operations personnel, and providing technical interpretation of policies and procedures.
- Ability to perform physical inspections of manufacturing areas, warehouses, utility spaces, and construction sites.
- Ability to proactively address complex regulatory issues and work with site personnel to implement sustainable solutions.
- Ability to work in a matrix environment and influence / motivate diverse teams to achieve a unified goal. Ability to provide flexible judgment and solutions to concerns and/or opportunities.
- Ability to travel 10% of the time.
