Innergex is seeking a motivated and skilled Community & Environmental Engagement Senior Coordinator to serve a dual role supporting both strategic community relations and environmental studies for renewable energy projects (wind, solar and battery). This individual will divide their efforts evenly between building and maintaining positive stakeholder relationships and coordinating environmental inputs to support project permitting, compliance, and regulatory engagement. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills and will thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
Your day-to-day!
Community Relations (50%)
- Develop and implement comprehensive stakeholder engagement strategies that build trust and foster positive relationships with landowners, neighbors, local officials, and community organizations.
- Organize and facilitate community engagement activities such as public meetings, stakeholder briefings, site tours, and community events.
- Monitor local government meetings, social media, and press to assess community sentiment and proactively address concerns.
- Serve as Innergex’s representative at events hosted by local nonprofits, trade associations, city councils, township trustees, and other civic groups.
- Provide timely updates to internal teams on external issues, public sentiment, and potential risks affecting projects.
- Maintain detailed records of stakeholder interactions and community inquiries using internal tools (e.g., INNSite).
- Develop, coordinate, track and implement the local charitable contributions budget and analyze the impact of community investment efforts.
- Support communication efforts by drafting content for newsletters, factsheets, and other public-facing materials.
- Support recruitment and engagement of community participants for various project-related initiatives.
Environmental Study & Regulatory Support (50%)
- Coordinate with internal and external environmental specialists or vendors on studies required for renewable project permitting (e.g., baseline field surveys, monitoring reports).
- Contribute to the preparation, review, and submission of environmental assessments, permit applications, and compliance documentation across jurisdictions
- Collaborate with engineering, land, legal, and other departments to integrate environmental considerations into project timelines and development strategies.
- Maintain knowledge of evolving environmental regulations at the federal, provincial/state, and municipal levels.
- Support the management of land-related environmental approvals and maintain direct relationships with regulators and agencies.
- Assist in the development and delivery of internal environmental policies, staff training, and environmental tracking systems.
- Support public open houses and community information sessions with environmental expertise.
- Research and resolve environmental project-related challenges using creative tools and methodologies.
- Monitor project status using tracking tables, schedules, and other project management systems.
Your skills, our requirements!
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in stakeholder engagement, community relations, or environmental project support, preferably in the renewable energy sector.
- Undergraduate degree, preferably Environmental Studies, Science, Public Policy, Public Affairs, or a related program.
- Strong understanding of permitting processes and environmental compliance requirements.
- Experience working with and managing specialist environmental consultants.
- Experience with public speaking, event coordination, and conflict resolution.
- An interest in environmental issues and responsible natural resource development.
- Familiarity with local politics and regulatory frameworks in rural communities.
- Strong sense of ownership for individual tasks and overall team objectives.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and a context of changing priorities.
- Ability to work independently and advance specific tasks and projects to conclusion without extensive oversight.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and spoken).
- Proven ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams and interact with diverse stakeholders.
- Enthusiasm, eagerness to learn and work in a seasoned team of environmental professionals.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Ability to participate in multiple periodic short field visits (1-2 days).
- Proficiency in MS Office, with emphasis on Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience with agency online databases and mapping tools (ArcGIS, Google Earth).

- The position could be based at the company’s San Diego (CA) office or remote within the USA.
- This position is a P2C level.

Pay Transparency Statement
Compensation for roles at Innergex varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, education, and level of experience. We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.
In the spirit of pay transparency we are excited to share the base salary for the position is $75 000- $95 000, exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you are hired by Innergex, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
