Reporting to the European Senior EHS Leader in Belgium, the EHS Manager is a hands-on role with responsibility for supporting our Cork facility (~100 staff across R&D and manufacturing) in the development, implementation, maintenance, monitoring and continuous improvement of Environmental Health and Safety programs, ensuring compliance with Local Regulatory and Hach/Veralto requirements.
The EHS Manager is based 5 days a week on-site, which operates Mon-Fri, 7am to 3.30pm (albeit the jobholder has some flexibility to determine their start/finish times). This position represents an excellent opportunity to be part of a market-leading global company and help drive further positive EHS performance at our Cork site.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure compliance within Hach / Veralto policies and procedures, along with all local governmental EHS regulations
Conduct regular walk-throughs (Gemba) of the plant to look for unsafe acts, conditions and to coach and mentor associates
Coordinate incident investigations with effective root cause investigation and counter measure implementation
Lead EHS related kaizen events to drive improvements
Facilitate and lead Plant Safety Committee and sub-team
Drive sustainability improvements
Attend regular Hach Global EHSS meetings
Direct, develop, and deliver environmental health and safety training programs to ensure employee’s knowledge, understanding and adherence to safety and environmental regulations
Review proposed new chemicals, chemical processes, equipment, machinery, new buildings, etc. with the use of the Management of Change process
Develop and execute actions to create, reduce and sustain the EHS risk assessment scores
Develop, implement, and coordinate all Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomic activities
Ensure all EHS issues identified during internal/external audits have corrective actions implemented and communicated in a timely manner
Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific programs that comply with corporate policy and programs and complete monthly safety reports
Manage EHS management programs including cost control/reduction and accident prevention/reduction
Focus on leading EHS indicators to drive long term improvement goals including human behaviour
Work with facilities in the contractor control requirements and property risk recommendations from FM Global
The Ideal Candidate:
>3 years successfully developing, implementing, and maintaining EHS systems, ideally in a fast-paced, results-driven, manufacturing environment
NEBOSH/IOSH Diploma or equivalent health & safety qualification and a comprehensive understanding of Irish EHS regulations
Experience in implementing and managing EHS related ISO standards such as ISO45001 & ISO14001
A proactive, solutions-focused mindset – ‘always a step ahead of risk’ and a passion for developing people and building a culture of safety and sustainability
Exceptional communication, interpersonal and influencing skills to advise senior internal/external stakeholders and spearhead effective change and improvement
Experience in managing/handling compliance issues, permitting, manufacturing operations, EHS and Environmental programs, regulatory reviews, permit preparation, reporting and record keeping
Detail focused and data-oriented problem solving & reporting skills
Comfortable to undertake a hands-on approach with some EHS administration and filing
Lean manufacturing and/or six sigma knowledge desired
