We're recruiting on behalf of a client looking for a dynamic and experienced Project Engineer in Renewable Energy to join their team in Cape Town.
Complete engineering projects by organizing and controlling project elements. Act as catch-net on projects to ensure effective quality control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing, scheduling, coordinating and monitoring the assigned engineering projects.
- Facilitate and contribute to the development of project plans and designs.
- Cooperate and communicate with Project Assistants and other project participants and collaborate with Senior Engineers to create more efficient project methods and to maintain projects’ profitability.
- Collaborate with project staff to create a strategic action plan and cost estimates of materials, time, labour, and other resources required to complete projects.
- Evaluate, organise and prioritise workload within a schedule.
- Liaise with third party contractors to ensure that all equipment is fit for purpose.
- Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA policies, performance standards and specifications.
- Perform overall quality control of the work (design, documentation, and budget) and report regularly on the project's status.
- Communicate plans, progress, changes and timelines with the client.
- Manage clients' expectations.
- Ensure that client requirements are understood correctly.
- Clear instruction to the Finance Department on progress invoices.
- Budget management.
- Communicate relevant information with the Head of Engineering.
- Input details on all engineering drawings (pack), for the draughting department, using AutoCAD.
- Review and approve the final engineering design pack as per company SOPs.
- Offer accurate project consultation and cost estimation where necessary.
- Perform the project performance report as set out contractually.
- Site assessments.
- Design solar arrays to optimize energy production using Helioscope/PV Cyst.
- Ask for proof of necessary insurance (confirming that insurance is in place).
- Check references to ensure that people are competent to perform the necessary work/a company has experience in executing the necessary work.
- Confirm that all the sub-contractors for each site have the necessary Certification to be able to work on that site, as per the OHSA, Act 85 of 1993.
- Determine dates and deliverables in partnership with the contractors.
- Scope out contractual requirements in terms of JBCC, NEC and FIDIC.
Job Experience & Skills Required (Ideal Candidate Profile):
- Minimum 3 years of experience in renewable energy
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a Project Engineer position
- Strong understanding of Helioscope, PVSyst, and PV Sol
- Safety management, relevant regulations, FIDIC, NEC, and JBCC knowledge
